On September 12, Alexis Bittar unveiled his Spring/Summer 2026 collection at New York Fashion Week. Rather than presenting accessories as mere adornments, the designer framed the collection as a meticulously crafted cinematic narrative—one that posed sharp questions to society.

The inspiration drew from his enduring love of classic cinema and surrealism. The dreamlike unease of David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, the terror of Brian De Palma’s Carrie, the fragile melancholy of Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, and the decadent masked ball of Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut all intertwined, giving rise to a fantastical stage titled Miss USA 1991.

At the heart of this story stood “The Host,” a figure symbolizing unchecked patriarchy. In stark contrast were the contestants, embodiments of innocence, striving for the crown under the crushing weight of perfection. Their struggle unfolded before a masked audience—spectators who consumed, judged, and became complicit, reflecting the role of the public itself.

What was particularly noteworthy was that each contestant on stage was cast to symbolize a U.S. state where trans rights are currently under threat.

The collection itself unfolded as a synthesis of the restrained minimalism of the early 1990s and the opulent maximalism of the late 1980s. Flowing silhouettes were set against sharp structures, organic textures against meticulous tailoring, and boldness against fragility—contrasts that reimagined the aesthetics of that era through a contemporary lens.

The brand’s iconic Lucite pieces, sculpted by hand, appeared in sherbet tones of mauve and teal emblematic of the early ’90s. These muted shades were fractured by bold graphic gold detailing, giving the accessories a vivid and commanding presence.

Through this presentation, Bittar reflected the spirit of the times with a critical lens and offered a new interpretation imbued with social meaning. His vision left the audience with a sense of uneasy beauty, suggesting the potential of accessories to transcend their traditional role and serve as a true medium of expression. The intersection of strength, elegance, and provocation made this moment one of the defining highlights of this season’s New York Fashion Week.
