Ukrainian brand BEVZA has unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 collection, titled Milky Way. The name derives from “Chumatskyi Shliakh,” the Ukrainian term for the Milky Way.

Historically, the Milky Way was not merely a celestial phenomenon, but also a navigational guide for the Chumaks—Ukrainian salt traders who journeyed vast distances from central Ukraine to the Black Sea and Crimea between the 15th and 19th centuries. Traveling for months beneath expansive skies, they relied on the stars to find their way home.

Bringing the Spirit of the Chumaks into the Present

The brand describes the Chumaks as follows: “The Chumaks were free people of the road. They were merchants, explorers, and carriers of culture. Traveling for months under open skies, they relied on the stars to find their way home. The Milky Way was their map, their protection, and their silent companion. It symbolized movement, endurance, and belief in direction beyond the visible.”

BEVZA translates this historical narrative into a minimalist, architectural aesthetic. Clean silhouettes, structural restraint, and tactile materials define the collection. A palette of muted whites, deep blacks, and soft cosmic tones—reminiscent of the night sky—embodies a quiet strength.

At its core, the collection explores the concept of “the path.” It is both physical and spiritual—a dialogue between earth and sky, tradition and modernity.

Reinterpreting the Cultural Code of the “Hustka”

One of the season’s defining details is the reinterpretation of the “hustka,” a traditional element of Ukrainian women’s dress. Scarf-like knots appear on trousers and dresses, while structured jackets further echo this cultural reference.

Symbolizing protection, identity, and continuity, the hustka has become a recurring cultural code within BEVZA’s collections. This season, it is elevated into functional, transformative garments that bridge heritage and contemporary design.

Key Piece: The “Zirky” Sweater

Among the collection’s standout pieces is the “Zirky” (Stars) sweater. Directly referencing the Chumatskyi Shliakh, the knit features hand-applied stars crafted from viscose waste. Adopting a zero-waste approach, surplus materials are transformed into a constellation-like texture across the surface. The quietly luminous finish evokes a tactile memory of the night sky.

The design reinterprets the traditional Icelandic lopapeysa sweater, merging artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary symbolism. The stars that once guided travelers are now stitched onto the garment, reconstructed as a tangible memory of the heavens.

Accessories Inspired by Trade and Navigation

Accessories also play a central role in the collection. Alongside new versions of the iconic “Kosa” bag, necklaces and earrings shaped like salt crystals are introduced—an homage to historic trade routes. Star-inspired jewelry recalls the celestial navigation that once guided travelers across vast landscapes.

Created Under Extreme Conditions

The collection was produced in Ukraine under severe and challenging circumstances. The campaign was shot in Poland by the Vogue Poland team, with styling by Kasia Mioduska.

The brand states:
“This collection was created in Ukraine during one of the most challenging periods for the country. Despite being produced under extreme conditions, including power outages and constant uncertainty, the process remained rooted in precision, craftsmanship, and resilience.”

Even amid adversity, BEVZA’s unwavering commitment defines the essence of Milky Way.
