Grace Ling Spring/Summer 2026 – Fashion as Future Relics

On September 11, Singapore-born, New York–based designer Grace Ling unveiled her Spring/Summer 2026 collection, Future Relics, during New York Fashion Week. Built around the provocative concept of fashion as “relics of the future,” the show explored the intersection of craft and technology, past and future, strength and elegance.

Organic Forms and Razor-Sharp Structures

At the heart of the collection were biomorphic chrome charms inspired by “found objects” such as combs, keys, padlocks, and knives. These details were not merely ornamental; they functioned as integral components of the garments themselves. Blazers were fastened with knife sheaths, bag handles were molded into the shape of blades, and even pins and logo tags carried metallic finishes. Each of these pieces was realized through Ling’s mastery of 3D printing, embodying both meticulous calculation and advanced craftsmanship.

The most breathtaking moments came in the opening and finale looks, featuring the sculptural “big couture pieces.” These chrome bodices, sharply curved along the body and gleaming under the lights, felt at once futuristic and mythological. Visually, they captured the essence of Ling’s “Future Relics” theme and instantly seized the audience’s attention.

Balanced against this metallic hardness were flowing draped skirts that introduced a tension between rigid and soft, cold and fluid. As the fabric swayed with the model’s steps against the stillness of the metal, the contrast vividly illustrated Ling’s ongoing exploration of dualities—“destruction and refinement, savagery and grace.”

Destroyed and Reborn Fabrics

Fabric innovation played an equally central role in this collection. Textiles were engineered to shift from opaque to sheer, treated with effects that mimicked cracks, burns, and tears. These surfaces concealed and revealed the body in equal measure, creating garments that oscillated between ruin and sophistication.

Sheer, weightless dresses layered with translucent corset boning evoked ethereal fragility, while leather jackets and elongated tunics provided a sharp counterpoint. Together, they created a dynamic rhythm on the runway, alternating between strength and softness.

The cast featured some of today’s most powerful models, including Alton Mason, Ashley Graham, Quannah Chasinghorse, and Precious Lee. Mason’s open, plunging white top, gathered asymmetrically across the torso, conveyed a windswept, almost ephemeral air—perfectly embodying the fleeting mood of the season.

More than a fashion collection, Future Relics proposed the idea of clothing as cultural artifacts, destined to outlast the moment and live on as relics of design. With her Spring/Summer 2026 show, Grace Ling reaffirmed her vision of “eccentric elegance” and “intelligent femininity,” signaling that her name will continue to shape the future of fashion.
