Chanel held its Métiers d’Art show in Dakar: Building long-term relationships with local artists and farmers

On December 6th, Chanel unveiled the 2022-23 Métiers d’Art collection in Dakar, Senegal’s West African capital.
This is the first time that European or US luxury fashion brands have staged a fashion show in sub-Saharan Africa. The venue for the show was the Senegalese capital’s former Palais de Justice (now home to its art Biennale).

Balenciaga is facing backlash for controversial ad campaigns

The luxury fashion house Balenciaga is facing backlash surrounding its new ads, featuring children holding teddy bears dressed in bondage.

This controversy was caused by their recent 2022 “Gift Collection” campaign in support of the Balenciaga Spring/Summer 2023 collection that debuted this fall at Paris Fashion Week.

Brands claiming to be anti-Black Friday

Since the covid-19 happened in 2020, many consumers have shifted to online shopping rather than going to physical stores. In the context of this move, a lot of stores tend to close their real stores and hold sales only in their online stores on the black holiday.

What’s more, many stores had already started the Black Friday sale in early November this year, and also the spanning of the holiday discount event is extended over 2 weeks.

Fashion brands entered Web3 and released phygital shows at NYFW: Remaining Web3 Challenges

New York fashion week was held from September 9th to September 14th and more than 110 brands released their new collection.
This season was literally said to be “Back to Normal” for the first time in about three years, not only fashion shows but also NYFW events and after-parties held by brands everywhere every day. It was a season that completely restored the vibrancy of fashion week.
