On February 11, Public School New York unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 collection at New York Fashion Week.

Marking its first full runway return in seven years, the collection was titled EVERYTHING IS NOW — a declaration that collapses past and future into a singular, urgent present.

Designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne framed the season around themes of loss and rediscovery, resistance and surrender, and evolution. This was not simply a comeback. It was a ritual of self-redefinition — a deliberate reconnection with New York City itself.

A Quiet Restart: Reconstructing Minimalism

The show opened with a grey-toned denim set — sharp shoulders, restrained silhouettes, leather gloves, a beret, dark sunglasses. Stripped of excess decoration, the look evoked the brand’s origins.

Black leather jackets and hooded leather pieces followed, amplifying a hardened, nocturnal urban mood. The cold wind of New York, the reflection of asphalt under streetlights, the tension of the streets — all were translated directly into garments.

A camel long coat stood out for its structured double-breasted form layered over knee-length shorts. Classic tailoring was interrupted by a subtle imbalance, revealing the brand’s aesthetic of “perfect imperfection.”

The Re-Fusion of Street and Atelier

Public School’s core DNA — the convergence of street and atelier — felt further refined this season.

An oversized grey suit maintained a foundation in traditional tailoring, yet softened through dropped shoulders and relaxed trousers, projecting a composed authority. Sharp flashes of red in ties and shirts cut through the muted palette with precision.

A short-sleeve shirt paired with a slim tie and leather trousers evoked the spirit of 1990s New York, yet carried a futuristic edge. Repeated accents — leather gloves, berets — created cohesion throughout the collection.

Voluminous navy outerwear, padded jackets, and long leather coats reinforced the brand’s commitment to real clothes for urban life. The balance between practicality and elegance was particularly striking.

Emotion Through Color

The palette centered on controlled tones — black, charcoal, navy, grey, camel. Within this restraint, bursts of vivid red emerged.

A crimson jacket struck the eye like the pulse of the city itself — a silent scream within an otherwise quiet collection. Its presence was symbolic.

A brown leather set carried a subtle 1970s warmth while remaining firmly contemporary in silhouette — a moment where past and present intersected.

A Return Called “Evolution”

In their statement, the designers explained: “This is not Darwinian evolution. It’s a lesson in the idea that all things rise and fall.”

What defined this collection was not linear growth, but the acceptance of cycles. It absorbed the tension and magnetism of New York City — the beauty found within struggle — and stood firmly in the present.

Public School has long connected worlds that otherwise would not intersect, using New York as its stage. That spirit returned this season in a quieter, more mature form.

What emerged after seven years of silence was not nostalgia.

It was a reconstructed present.
