On January 25, ssstein unveiled its Fall/Winter 2026 Menswear & Womenswear collection during Paris Fashion Week.

This season, ssstein presents a quiet yet deliberate attempt to gently extract emotional nuances embedded in everyday life, translating them into garments as a medium. Founder and Creative Director Kiichiro Asakawa looks beyond his own inner world, turning his attention to the presence of others encountered in the city, and to imagined emotions residing within familiar, often overlooked landscapes.

“It might be the imagined emotions of people that I observe, not only my own feelings. Or the pleasure of discovering Jamie Hawkesworth’s landscape photographs, and rediscovering banal views of Tokyo. A simple joy and a warm feeling laced with nostalgia bring me great peace of mind.”

As Asakawa’s words suggest, the collection is enveloped not by overt statements, but by a calm atmosphere where reassurance and nostalgia coexist. Strong gestures and excessive theatricality are deliberately set aside. What emerges on the runway is a sequence of garments that feel as though they exist on the extension of real life—clothes that seem to belong naturally to the rhythms of everyday living. Here, ssstein’s long-held philosophy—that clothing should quietly accompany a person’s life—takes on a clearer and more assured form.

The color palette centers on subdued tones—grey, brown, khaki, and olive—punctuated by restrained accents of red, yellow, and green. These hues recall autumn leaves or the muted glow of foliage illuminated under streetlights at night. Rather than delivering immediate visual impact, color functions as a conduit for memory and emotion.

Material exploration stands out as a defining feature of the season. Softly woven tweeds, corduroy with uneven coloration created through sun-drying after dyeing, and subtly brushed argyle knits all reject uniformity. Instead, they embrace textures that suggest the passage of time and traces of the human hand. Each garment feels like a fragment of lived experience, rendered tangible.

One of the collection’s key statement pieces is a grey coat with raglan sleeves. Its slightly off-center closure, described by Asakawa as a “deconstructed Chesterfield,” introduces a delicate imbalance that reframes a classical structure into a new equilibrium. Slowly woven on shuttle looms and lightly felted, the flannel fabric possesses an air-filled softness, while a brushed finish lends a subdued sheen that enhances its quiet elegance.

The use of double-layered collars—finished in suede or leather—adds another notable dimension. By introducing a subtle tension to otherwise relaxed silhouettes, these details sharpen the overall balance. Seen across balmacaan coats and blousons, this approach exemplifies ssstein’s distinctive sensibility for construction and deconstruction.

Even within the sportier pieces, advanced technique lies beneath a minimalist surface. A blouson made from wool and cashmere employs hand-stitching that scoops only the inner layer of the double cloth, ensuring no visible stitching when worn. Lightly padded blousons and track pants—combining tailored elements with an artistic edge—achieve a refined balance between functionality and aesthetic precision.

Denim, a signature category for ssstein, expands this season into colored variations. The lineup includes the brand’s iconic arched-leg silhouette, reconstructed straight cuts, and wide-leg styles. Rope-dyed warp yarns retain a white core, allowing the fabric to develop depth and character with wear. Knitwear—ranging from cashmere and mohair to wool intarsia—features extensive brushing techniques, reinforcing both visual softness and tactile warmth.

Notably, all looks are now offered from XS sizing, alongside the introduction of feminine pieces such as two-way maxi skirts and tight-fit tank tops. Rather than a simple expansion of size range, these additions suggest a quiet yet intentional prelude to ssstein’s forthcoming womenswear direction.

Without raising its voice, the ssstein Fall–Winter 2026 collection distills everyday emotions and the traces of time into clothing. In doing so, it once again articulates a form of “quiet strength”—a reminder that garments need not dominate a life, but can exist as thoughtful companions within it.
