A new Hermès address has been added to the Ginza district of Tokyo, where tradition and innovation coexist. On June 26, Hermès opened a new store on the first floor of Ginza Mitsukoshi, Tokyo (4-6-16 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).
Inspired by Ginza’s daytime and nighttime faces and its dynamic energy, the space is shaped by a geometric pattern of contrasting colors, light reflections, and urban signs.
The new store was designed by RDAI, a Paris-based architectural design firm, to embody the elegant and lively atmosphere of Ginza, while at the same time highlighting the Maison’s spirit. Symbolic details are woven, from the Grecques lights to the Faubourg mosaic inlaid on the speckled terrazzo flooring.
Stepping into the store, a yellow and pink mosaic floor welcomes visitors. These crisscrossing tiles lead visitors into a cocoon-like space of wavy rose-toned panels, where perfumes are presented alongside home universes, women’s silks, and fashion jewelry.
Further into the store, the leather and equestrian collections are on display. To the right, the watch and jewelry area is wrapped in yellow origami work, and to the left, two fitting rooms, a lounge, and a passageway leading to three salons, each displaying women’s and men’s shoes and women’s and men’s ready-to-wear.
Adding further elegance to the store are artworks selected from the collection of Émile Hermès, the Maison’s third president, and a collection of contemporary Hermès photographs. These include an off-kilter composition of a horse’s mane captured by Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert. The artwork “Flying Faubourg” by French artists Zim and Zou also graces the window display.
To reduce crowding, visits to the Hermes Ginza Mitsukoshi store are currently limited to reservations by lottery from June 26 to June 30, immediately after the store opens. After July 1, the store will be open for regular business.
