Chanel has announced that its 2024-25 Métiers d’Art Collection fashion show will be held in Hangzhou, China, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
Each year, Métiers d’Art shows tour cities around the world, presenting collections that incorporate cultural elements rooted in the locality. At the Métiers d’Art 2024 show held in Manchester, England last December, the avant-garde spirit inspired by Manchester’s music scene that flourished from the 1970s to the 1990s and its history as an industrial city was expressed.
Hangzhou, China, where the 2024-25 Métiers d’Art show will be held, is located 170 km south of Shanghai. The city is known as an e-commerce and economic center, with the headquarters of the famous Alibaba Group, one of China’s largest corporations. It is also dotted with spectacular landscapes and historic scenic spots. West Lake in Hangzhou was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2011 as the “West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou.”
The last time Chanel presented Métiers d’Art in China was in 2009. That season, the collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld was presented in Shanghai. Also in 2023, the 2023-2024 Cruise Show was held in Shenzhen, China.
Just last month, Virginie Viard, who had served as artistic director at Chanel for five years, left the brand. As of now, Viard’s successor has not been named, and the December Métiers d’Art collection will be designed by an in-house studio team.
