On July 31, Italian fashion house Blumarine announced the appointment of David Koma as the new creative director.
Since the departure of former creative lead Walter Chiapponi after just one season, the position has remained vacant until today.
Georgian-born designer Koma launched his eponymous fashion brand “David Koma” in 2009 after completing his studies at the prestigious London fashion school Central Saint Martins. Since then, he has been a participant in London Fashion Week and has received high acclaim as a designer for his sculptural silhouettes and striking aesthetic.
Marco Marchi, the sole director of Exelite, the holding company that owns Blumarine, commented on Koma’s appointment: “David Koma’s aesthetic captured me from the beginning. I am sure that David will be able to interpret Blumarine’s codes to perfection, thanks to his vision and stylistic sensitivity, characterised by an overwhelming femininity.”
In a statement, Koma expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, “Blumarine embodies a unique blend of sensuality, timeless glamour and elegance that I always admired, and it is an honour to be able to write the next chapter in the brand’s illustrious history. I am excited to celebrate Blumarine’s rich creative heritage while infusing it with my own modern vision.”
Koma’s debut collection for Blumarine will be showcased in the Pre-Fall 2025 collection.
