It has been revealed by sources that the Wertheimer family, owners of Chanel, and the Bettencourt family, owners of L’Oréal, have acquired a minority stake in the fashion brand The Row, established by the Olsen sisters. Currently, the brand is valued at approximately $1 billion.
Gérard and Alain Wertheimer made the investment through their family office, Mousse Partners, while the Bettencourt Meyers family, which controls L’Oréal, participated in the deal through their family office, Tethys Invest, according to a source confirming a Bloomberg report.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that Imaginary Ventures, a venture capital firm co-founded by fashion entrepreneurs Natalie Massenet and Nick Brown, has also invested in The Row. Furthermore, Lauren Santo Domingo’s private investment fund, StDominique Capital, has joined this investment round as well.
The Row, founded in 2006 by Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen, is known for its minimalist designs. This style is often referred to as “quiet luxury,” reflecting the trend toward understated yet high-quality luxury. The brand’s products are positioned at very high price points, with cashmere and silk sweaters priced over $3,000, wool coats exceeding $4,500, and the popular leather handbag, the “Margaux,” reaching around $7,000.
Currently, The Row operates only four stores worldwide, located in New York, Amagansett in the Hamptons, and Los Angeles, and one in London. The brand is also planning to open its first boutique in the 1st arrondissement of Paris in the near future.
