On September 19, GU, a fashion brand under the umbrella of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., opened its first overseas flagship store in New York’s SoHo. Simultaneously, GU launched its online store, officially beginning its service across the United States.
The new GU SoHo store in New York is located at 578 Broadway, right in the heart of SoHo, a vibrant hub where fashion and culture converge. On opening day, over 150 eager customers lined up, and as soon as the doors opened, the crowds flooded in, showcasing the strong anticipation surrounding the event.
The store spans an impressive 945 square meters over two floors, including the ground level and basement. It offers a wide selection of the latest women’s and men’s fashion items, shoes, bags, and various accessories.
Over 100 mannequins are artfully styled in the sporty yet refined looks that define New York’s fashion scene, creating striking visual displays that draw in and engage shoppers throughout the store.
To mark the grand opening, the store is offering exclusive collaboration pieces with the renowned brand UNDERCOVER, alongside products available only in New York.
The store’s exterior features a large, visually impactful logo cube and digital signage, designed to catch the attention of passersby and tourists alike.
In 2022, GU set up a product development office in New York, driving its global design efforts. Beginning in September 2024, the New York office has been transformed into GU’s US Global Headquarters, expanding to include marketing and in-store merchandising operations. This move aims to not only enhance product development but also strengthen global-standard store creation and marketing strategies.
Osamu Yunoki, president of GU, expressed his enthusiasm in an interview with OSF, saying, “We see the opening of our New York flagship store as a major starting point, and from here, we aim to provide high-quality fashion and exciting shopping experiences to customers worldwide.”
