On September 23, Jean Paul Gaultier announced that designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin would be the next guest couturier for the upcoming haute couture show. This show, scheduled for January 2025, will see de Saint Sernin infuse Jean Paul Gaultier’s couture with his unique creative vision.
Since Jean Paul Gaultier retired from fashion design after presenting his final haute couture collection in January 2020, he has continued the legacy of his couture house by inviting renowned designers as guest couturiers, starting in July 2021. Notable figures such as Chitose Abe of Sacai, Glenn Martens, Olivier Rousteing, Haider Ackermann, and Simone Rocha have each brought their visions to Gaultier’s historical codes, creating new interpretations of the brand’s iconic identity. Most recently, Nicolas Di Felice was appointed guest couturier for the Fall/Winter 2024 haute couture collection. De Saint Sernin now follows in Di Felice’s footsteps and will helm the Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
Like Jean Paul Gaultier, Ludovic de Saint Sernin is celebrated for his creative talent and is known for pushing the boundaries of design. Born in Brussels and raised in France, de Saint Sernin studied design at the Ecole Duperré in Paris. In 2018, he was a finalist for the prestigious LVMH Prize and received the ANDAM Creative Label Award, gaining significant recognition both within and beyond the fashion industry.
De Saint Sernin’s career is built upon his experience at houses like Saint Laurent and Balmain. He launched his own menswear label in 2017, later expanding into womenswear, and even served as a designer at Ann Demeulemeester for a brief period.
For the Fall/Winter 2024 collection, de Saint Sernin made his New York Fashion Week debut, presenting a runway show for the first time outside of Paris. His bold and innovative collection was inspired by the works of artist and photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, blending art and fashion in a striking new way.
