On November 27, the British contemporary fashion brand Joseph announced that Mario Arena would join as its new creative director. Arena will begin designing for Joseph with the Spring/Summer 2026 collection, which is set to be released late next year.
Joseph has long been celebrated as an iconic London brand, known for its refined cashmere knitwear, tailored trousers, and classic yet modern apparel. Founded in 1966 by Joseph Ettedgui as a multi-brand concept store, the brand launched its own label in 1983. From its inception, Ettedgui’s sharp design sensibility and innovative ideas set the tone for the industry, providing women with high-quality wardrobe staples, including ready-to-wear, accessories, and footwear.
Joseph’s collections embody contemporary sophistication with an understated elegance. At the heart of its appeal lies the use of exceptional materials and impeccable craftsmanship, resulting in perfect fits. Every piece reflects meticulous attention to detail, offering more than just clothing—it delivers timeless charm tailored to the modern woman’s lifestyle.
Arena praised Joseph Ettedgui as a “visionary who broke new ground in design and retail.” He continued, “The rich heritage and enduring design codes have always been an inspiration to me in my career. I look forward to bringing to life a new vision for this iconic brand.”
Barbara Campos, Joseph’s CEO, also shared her thoughts on Arena’s appointment: “He is a highly talented creative with a wealth of experience within contemporary luxury. I look forward to working with him as we enter this exciting new chapter.”
Arena brings over 30 years of experience in the luxury fashion industry. He previously directed ready-to-wear, accessories, and runway products at JW Anderson. His career also includes pivotal roles at Nanushka and Christopher Kane, as well as launching his own brand, Enlist. In addition, Arena founded the strategic design studio Arena International, collaborating with major brands like Celine and luxury groups such as LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
Arena succeeds Anna Lundbäck Dyhr and Frederik Dyhr, who jointly served as Joseph’s creative directors since 2020. Based in Paris, the duo decided to step down when the brand shifted its headquarters back to London.
Arena will oversee operations at Joseph’s newly established design department in southwest London, working closely with the atelier and product teams. This new hub, located within the same building as Joseph’s headquarters, ensures seamless collaboration and operational efficiency for the brand’s creative development.
