In 2003, the collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami marked a groundbreaking moment, seamlessly blending fashion, art, and pop culture. This innovative partnership achieved rapid success, defining an era in the industry. On January 1, 2025, Louis Vuitton announced the revival of the iconic “LOUIS VUITTON × MURAKAMI” collection, accompanied by a campaign featuring Zendaya.
The re-edition of “LOUIS VUITTON × MURAKAMI” is an ambitious project that fuses Murakami’s vibrant and imaginative world with Louis Vuitton’s renowned craftsmanship (savoir-faire) and cutting-edge technology.
Over 200 Items Adorned with “Monogram Multicolore” Now Available
At the heart of this collection lies the “Monogram Multicolore,” expressed in 33 vibrant colors. Originally created under the direction of Marc Jacobs, this iconic motif has been reimagined across more than 200 items, including bags, silk squares, scarves, sunglasses, fashion jewelry, shoes, and fragrances.
The bag lineup features popular city bags such as the “Keepall,” “Coussin,” “Dauphine,” “OnTheGo,” and “Speedy.” Available in both white and black canvas variations, these designs strike a balance between elegance and playfulness. Additionally, the collection includes a wide range of accessories, with compact bags like the “Vanity Chain Pouch,” “Nano Speedy,” and “Nano Diane” offering refined options for everyday use.
One standout item in this collection is the customizable “Malle Vestiaire,” a trunk that holds 33 “Speedy” bags, making it a must-have for collectors. The lineup of travel goods is equally impressive, featuring items like the “Keepall 45” and “Mini Square Trunk,” designed to add a touch of elegance to any journey.
The shoe collection includes wedge-soled espadrilles, mules, ballet flats, and platform sandals, offering a wide variety of stylish options. Additionally, Takashi Murakami’s iconic character, the “Superflat Panda,” brings charm and whimsy to items like the “OnTheGo PM Chain” and “Alma BB” bags. Playful accessories such as the “Porte-Clés Panda” keyring and a skateboard further enhance the collection’s appeal.
Fragrance bottles for “Attrape-Rêves” and “Imagination” are adorned with Murakami’s characters and motifs, paired with exclusive cylindrical packaging that exudes luxury. Travel cases and fragrance trunks, crafted from premium white canvas and decorated with the Monogram Multicolore, beautifully blend art and luxury.
This collection utilizes the latest digital printing technology across all items, ensuring that Murakami’s characters and motifs are rendered with unmatched vibrancy and precision. It sets a new standard for innovation and craftsmanship.
Campaign Featuring Zendaya, a Symbol of the Next Generation
The campaign for this collection stars Hollywood actress Zendaya, who serves as a Louis Vuitton ambassador. Back in 2003, when the original collection was first launched, Zendaya was just 7 years old. Today, she has grown into an iconic figure representing the next generation and stands as the face of the brand. Her presence perfectly embodies Takashi Murakami’s theme of being a “bridge to the future.”
In the campaign video, a retro-style mobile phone delivered from Tokyo to New York releases Murakami’s characters. The short film also features Zendaya dancing alongside these characters, fully capturing the creative world of Louis Vuitton and Takashi Murakami.
Immersive Pop-Up Events Across Global Cities
To commemorate this re-edition, immersive pop-up events will be held in seven cities worldwide, including New York, Tokyo, Seoul, and Milan. These events will feature a variety of experiential content, such as cafes, cinemas, photo booths, and specially designed trams adorned with Takashi Murakami’s iconic characters.
