On February 24, LOEWE opened its largest flagship store in Asia, CASA LOEWE Shanghai, in the heart of Shanghai’s Jing’an district. Located at the intersection of Nanjing West Road and Changde Road, the store spans an impressive 695 square meters, offering an immersive luxury experience that embodies the brand’s unique universe.
A Fusion of Craftsmanship and Modernity in Design
The exterior of CASA LOEWE Shanghai is clad in gold ceramic tiles, handcrafted by artisans in Spain. These shimmering tiles reflect light dynamically, creating a striking visual effect. Inside, a warm color palette of white, brown, gold, orange, and green is harmoniously blended with premium materials such as marble, brass, glass, and oak, resulting in a space that is both minimalist and richly textured.
More than just a boutique, CASA LOEWE Shanghai is conceived as a collector’s home. The space features carefully curated furniture, including the Utrecht armchair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld and a floating stone table by Axel Vervoordt, reinforcing an atmosphere reminiscent of an art gallery.
Additionally, the store showcases a selection of artworks that highlight LOEWE’s deep appreciation for craftsmanship. The collection includes ceramic pieces by John Ward, woven bamboo works by Hafu Matsumoto, and an oak vessel by Ernst Gamperl, each exemplifying traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary touch. The space is further enriched by vibrant paintings from Ken Price and Mahesh Baliga, adding to an immersive shopping experience that transcends conventional retail.
Featuring Works by LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize Artists
In the coming months, two more exceptional artworks will join the CASA LOEWE Shanghai collection. One is a stoneware sculpture titled Chōtō (Listening to the Waves) by Japanese ceramic artist Takayuki Sakiyama, which received a special mention at the 2021 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. The other is a sphere installation crafted from horsehair and stainless steel by Dahye Jong, the winner of the 2022 LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize. This piece is part of the LOEWE Lamps Project 2024.
With the opening of this flagship store in Shanghai, a global metropolis, LOEWE strengthens its presence in Asia. By seamlessly blending art and craftsmanship, CASA LOEWE Shanghai stands as a true embodiment of the brand’s identity and vision.
