Versace Appoints Dario Vitale as Creative Chief, Donatella Transitions to Brand Ambassador

Versace Appoints Dario Vitale as Creative Chief

On March 13, Italian luxury brand Versace announced the appointment of Dario Vitale, former Design & Image Director at Miu Miu, as its new Chief Creative Officer (CCO). Meanwhile, Donatella Versace, who had served as the brand’s CCO, will transition to the role of Brand Ambassador effective April 1, 2025.

A Strategic Succession Plan for Versace’s Future

John D. Idol, Chairman and CEO of Capri Holdings, Versace’s parent company, commented on the transition: “Today’s announcements were part of a thoughtful succession plan for Versace. Since 1997, Donatella has led the creative vision for the House of Versace and played an integral role in the company’s global success. Donatella will be assuming the role of Chief Brand Ambassador and will continue to champion the Versace brand and its values.”

Regarding the new CCO, he added, “We are excited to announce that Dario Vitale will be joining the House of Versace as its new Chief Creative Officer. He is a strong design leader, and we are confident that his talent and vision will be instrumental to Versace’s future growth.”

Dario Vitale has previously held the role of Design & Image Director at Miu Miu, where he played a key role in shaping the brand’s contemporary and distinctive visual identity. Before that, he had worked at Prada and Balenciaga, contributing to the evolution of modern luxury fashion. His design philosophy is centered on merging classic elements with avant-garde approaches, making it intriguing to see how he will reinterpret Versace’s heritage.

Upon his appointment, Vitale expressed his enthusiasm: “I am truly honored to join Versace as the Chief Creative Officer and to be a part of this special and powerful fashion luxury House created by Gianni and Donatella. The House of Versace has a unique heritage that has spanned decades and has shaped the history of fashion.”

As she steps into her new position as Brand Ambassador, Donatella Versace will focus on philanthropic and social initiatives for the brand. She remarked: “I am thrilled that Dario Vitale will be joining us, and excited to see Versace through new eyes. I want to thank my incredible design team and all the employees at Versace that I have had the privilege of working with for over three decades. It has been the greatest honor of my life to carry on my brother Gianni’s legacy.”

Emmanuel Gintzburger, CEO of Versace, praised Donatella’s contributions and expressed confidence in Vitale: “Dario Vitale is a rare talent, who deeply respects the essence and values of Versace and clearly understands its growth potential. We are convinced that his experience and vision will bring a new perspective to the brand.”

With this leadership change, Versace is entering a new phase of creative direction. The fact that Vitale comes from Miu Miu, a Prada subsidiary, raises curiosity about how his influence will shape Versace’s design evolution.

Although Capri Holdings has not officially announced any plans to sell Versace, reports suggest that Prada may be considering an acquisition. The fashion industry will be closely watching to see how Versace’s next chapter unfolds.
