Ib Kamara, a renowned fashion stylist and the current creative director of Off-White™, is stepping down as editor-in-chief of the British culture magazine Dazed. His tenure spanned four years, and his final issue is set to be published in June 2024.
Kamara took on the role in 2021, bringing a distinctive editorial vision that bridged fashion, music, film, and sports. Under his leadership, the magazine featured cover stars such as Rihanna, Harry Styles, Rosalía, Dua Lipa, A$AP Rocky, Naomi Osaka, and Taylor Russell — capturing the spirit of the times through bold and culturally resonant visuals.
During his time at Dazed, Kamara also appointed Gareth Wrighton as art director and Kacion Mayers as editorial director. Both will step down alongside him in June.
In a statement, Kamara expressed his gratitude: “I would like to thank Jefferson, Sus and the Dazed team for always supporting our full expression without boundaries. I am so proud of my team and all the collaborators I have worked with on the pages of Dazed.”
“I’ll be forever honoured by the opportunity to have been among the creative leaders of this iconic platform – now becoming part of the infamous alumni who collectively continue to shape the culture. Last of all, I look to the future of Dazed and am excited for what is to come – as the baton is handed down and more doors are opened for a new generation of creatives waiting to have their voices heard.”
Jefferson Hack, CEO and co-founder of Dazed Media, praised Kamara’s legacy: “Every generation has a stylist who becomes the catalyst and sets a new tone for fashion image-making. Ib Kamara is this vanguard. He has updated and upended the fashion lexicon, with more narrative, more theater, more graphic silhouettes, more originality — a young fearless way of putting clothes and images together that made you stop and pay attention. During his time at Dazed, Ib never stopped looking outward at the world, finding the energy in Brazil, Shanghai, Nigeria or Ghana and filtering it back through Dazed.”
Kamara succeeded Virgil Abloh as art and image director at Off-White™ in 2022 and was promoted to creative director in February 2024. Beyond Dazed, he has collaborated with major brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Ferragamo, Gucci, and Kenzo, and has contributed to publications including Vogue, W, and Double.
He also worked closely with emerging creative talents and photographers such as Malick Bodian, Campbell Addy, Aidan Zamiri, Gabriel Moses, Renell Medrano, and Justin French — expanding the visual landscape of the magazine. His rich, storytelling-focused visual language earned him the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator from the British Fashion Council in 2021.
As of now, Dazed has not yet announced Kamara’s successor.
