On April 18, Louis Vuitton announced that it will unveil its Cruise 2026 show at the historic Palais des Papes in Avignon, France. The show is scheduled to take place on May 22, 2025. Designed by the brand’s women’s artistic director, Nicolas Ghesquière, the latest collection will be presented for the first time inside this magnificent Gothic monument, which is also recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Palais des Papes served as the temporary seat of the Roman Catholic Church in the 14th century when papal authority was relocated to Avignon. It was constructed under the leadership of Pope Benedict XII and Pope Clement VI. Building began in 1335 and was completed in less than two decades. Today, the imposing structure dominates the skyline of Avignon from its elevated position along the Rhône River.
Spanning approximately 15,000 square meters with over 25 rooms open to the public, the Gothic complex is often described as a “fortress built of stone.” Within its walls, 14th-century frescoes and intricate stone carvings remain remarkably well preserved, offering a vivid glimpse into the opulence and authority of the papal court. The grandeur of the space evokes a medieval epic, where religion, politics, and art converge.
Louis Vuitton has consistently selected architecturally and culturally significant venues for its Cruise shows, and this upcoming event continues that tradition. Ghesquière has previously staged shows in venues such as Park Güell in Barcelona and Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore, locations where history and artistic expression intertwine.
In addition, Louis Vuitton will support a long-term lighting initiative in Avignon to help preserve and enhance the city’s cultural landscape. The illumination project will include the Palais des Papes, Avignon Cathedral, the Petit Palais, the Hôtel des Monnaies, and the Hôtel Calvet de la Palun. The initiative aims to balance aesthetic enhancement with public safety, reflecting the brand’s commitment to supporting local communities.
The Cruise 2026 collection is expected to be available in Louis Vuitton boutiques worldwide starting in November 2025.
