On May 12, Maison Margiela revealed through an exclusive report by WWD that Glenn Martens will present his first collection for the house during the Fall 2025 Haute Couture Week. Martens is set to make his official debut with the brand’s couture line, Artisanal, during the upcoming Paris Haute Couture Week, scheduled to run from July 7 to 10.

Through a statement shared with WWD, the brand said, “This marks the beginning of an inspiring new chapter for the maison, rooted in our core creative values and shaped by Margiela’s couture heritage. Under Glenn’s direction, couture will continue to ignite creativity for the brand and drive boundary pushing designs.”

Martens’ appointment was announced this January by Maison Margiela’s parent company, OTB Group. In addition to this new role, he continues to serve as the creative director of Diesel, meaning he will now lead two major brands simultaneously.

Born in 1983 in Bruges, Belgium, Martens graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. He began his career under Jean Paul Gaultier and joined Y/Project in 2010. In 2013, he was appointed creative director of the brand, where he became known for his experimental cutting and deconstructive design language that defined the label’s identity.

Since 2020, Martens has also led Diesel’s creative direction, driving commercial success through hit products like the 1DR bag and expanding the women’s collection to appeal to Gen Z consumers. In 2022, he further demonstrated his design versatility by creating a couture collection as a guest designer for Jean Paul Gaultier, proving his capability in haute couture.

Maison Margiela has participated in Haute Couture Week with its Artisanal collections since 2006 and was officially recognized as a haute couture house in 2012. Martens’ upcoming show will mark the brand’s return to the couture runway following the departure of former creative director John Galliano, who concluded his decade-long tenure with a critically acclaimed Spring 2024 Artisanal collection.

While details of Martens’ debut collection remain under wraps, expectations are high for a presentation that fuses the house’s avant-garde heritage with his forward-thinking approach.
