On May 19, luxury brand Loro Piana announced the launch of a new five-year program titled “Resilient Threads”, aimed at supporting the grassland ecosystems and nomadic communities of Mongolia. The initiative represents a long-term commitment to strengthening the brand’s more than 40-year relationship with the region and ensuring sustainable cashmere sourcing.
For Loro Piana, Mongolia is more than just a source of raw materials. The company operates its only overseas manufacturing facility in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, and has built deep ties with local cooperatives and herding communities over the past four decades. These partnerships are integral to the brand’s craftsmanship and sourcing practices.
The program will focus on five districts in Mongolia’s eastern Sukhbaatar Province—one of the few remaining untouched grassland ecosystems in the world. These areas are facing increasing threats from climate change, particularly from “dzud,” a severe winter weather phenomenon that disrupts grazing, limits access to food and water, and causes widespread loss of livestock and threats to human health.
Loro Piana will collaborate with local cashmere cooperatives and nomadic herders in these areas to build a more resilient supply chain, protect biodiversity, and address climate challenges.
Comprehensive Support for Health, Education, and Ecosystem Protection
The Resilient Threads program adopts a “One Health” approach, which recognizes the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. Beginning in 2025, the initiative will introduce a mobile health hub to provide remote communities with services such as medical support, vaccinations, and public health education. In addition, the program will establish a biodiversity center to promote grassland conservation and a seed bank to preserve medicinal and food-related plants that support both ecosystem health and local livelihoods.
These initiatives were developed over a two-year preparation period in partnership with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA), and the Odyssey Conservation Trust (OCT), and were designed in collaboration with local governments and cooperatives.

Responsible Luxury at the Core of Loro Piana’s Mission
The Resilient Threads program is aligned with LVMH’s LIFE 360 environmental strategy, which includes a group-wide commitment to restore five million hectares of natural habitats by 2030.
Loro Piana has long invested in the communities and ecosystems that supply its raw materials—from vicuña in Peru to merino wool in New Zealand, and cashmere in Mongolia. These efforts reflect the brand’s broader strategy of responsible sourcing and long-term partnerships. With this new initiative, Loro Piana reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, aiming to pass on these values to future generations.
