Italian fashion house Marni has named Belgian designer Meryll Rogge as its new creative director, following the 2025 departure of Francesco Risso after nearly a decade at the helm. Rogge is the first woman to hold the role since the brand’s founder, Consuelo Castiglioni.
“I’m truly honored to join Marni, a house I’ve long admired for its independent spirit,” Rogge said in an official statement. “To take on a role defined by such visionary creative directors is both humbling and inspiring. I’m deeply grateful to Renzo and Stefano for recognizing the resonance between our worlds and for entrusting me with this extraordinary opportunity. I look forward to helping shape what comes next for Marni.”
After graduating from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Rogge began her career at Marc Jacobs, where she worked on the design team from 2008 to 2015. She later returned to Belgium to lead womenswear design at Dries Van Noten. In 2020, she launched her eponymous label, Meryll Rogge, which has since gained critical acclaim for its blend of practicality and bold use of color.
In 2024, she became the first woman to win “Designer of the Year” at the Belgian Fashion Awards. In June of this year, she was also awarded the prestigious ANDAM Grand Prize in France, receiving €300,000 in funding as well as a year-long mentorship by Sidney Toledano, senior advisor to LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault and president of Institut Français de la Mode (IFM).
Renzo Rosso, chairman of OTB Group, Marni’s parent company, stated: “Meryll impressed us with the sensitivity she brought to reinterpreting the brand’s DNA, offering a contemporary vision that embraces Marni globally and across all its dimensions — including accessories, interior design, communication, and special projects.
I wish her the best in carrying this vision forward with passion, supported by a team and a Group that have always placed creativity at the core of their identity.”
Marni CEO Stefano Rosso added, “It is a great pleasure to welcome Meryll in Marni.
She is an exceptional creative talent and an inspiring woman, whose vision and expertise will play a key role in shaping the future of this amazing brand.”
Across the fashion industry, the past year has seen a wave of creative director changes at major houses, with 17 appointments made in total. However, only four of these roles have gone to women. Rogge follows in the footsteps of Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta, Sarah Burton at Givenchy, and Veronica Leoni at Calvin Klein, making her appointment a notable move toward rebalancing gender representation in the upper ranks of fashion leadership.
As of now, no official date has been announced for Rogge’s debut collection at Marni.
