French luxury maison Chanel has announced that its upcoming Métiers d’Art collection will be unveiled in New York on December 2, 2025. This marks the brand’s return to the city for the first time in seven years, following its last Métiers d’Art show there in 2018.
The upcoming show will also serve as the first Métiers d’Art collection by newly appointed creative director Matthieu Blazy. Blazy is set to make his official Chanel debut with the ready-to-wear collection during Paris Fashion Week on October 6, making the Métiers d’Art show his second major presentation for the house.
Regarding the decision to stage the show in New York, Chanel stated: “This choice extends the history that has united Chanel with New York since the 1930s, from Gabrielle Chanel’s first trips across the Atlantic to the Paris-New York Métiers d’Art collection show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2018.”
The exact venue for the event has not yet been disclosed.
Established in 2002 by the late Karl Lagerfeld, the Métiers d’Art collection is a special runway show that celebrates the exceptional craftsmanship of the artisanal workshops owned by Chanel. These include 12 ateliers such as the embroidery house Lesage and the milliner Maison Michel. Each year, the Métiers d’Art show is presented in a different city, showcasing the unique savoir-faire of these ateliers.
Chanel’s last Métiers d’Art presentation in New York took place in December 2018, when Karl Lagerfeld staged a memorable show at the Temple of Dendur in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The collection drew inspiration from Ancient Egyptian geometry and merged it with the refined elegance of New York’s Upper East Side, leaving a lasting impression.
In recent years, Chanel has chosen to stage the Métiers d’Art show in unexpected locations, including Hangzhou, China; Manchester, UK; and Dakar, Senegal—cities that lie outside the conventional luxury fashion circuit. In this context, the return to New York represents not only a symbolic reconnection with a commercially and culturally significant city but also signals the beginning of a new era for the house under Blazy’s creative vision.
