On August 21, UNIQLO announced that Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett has been named its new Global Brand Ambassador. Through this partnership, the company aims to further promote its LifeWear philosophy worldwide, which emphasizes the pursuit of excellence and a commitment to contributing to society.
Blanchett is widely recognized for her acclaimed performances in films such as TÁR, Carol, The Aviator, Blue Jasmine, and Elizabeth. Beyond the screen, she has also garnered numerous awards for her stage work on Broadway, London’s West End, and other major theaters around the world. In addition, she has served as Co-Artistic Director and Co-CEO of the Sydney Theatre Company and co-founded the production company Dirty Films, contributing to the advancement of both stage and film. In the fashion world, Blanchett is regarded as a style icon, consistently appearing on international best-dressed lists.
At the same time, Blanchett is deeply engaged in social causes. She serves as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), sits on the council of the Earthshot Prize, and is the inaugural Ambassador for the Millennium Seed Bank at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. She also supports multiple organizations, including the Australian Conservation Foundation and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, underscoring her wide-ranging commitment to humanitarian and environmental issues—values that resonate strongly with Uniqlo’s philosophy.
Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President, and CEO of Fast Retailing, commented: “Ms. Blanchett is among the greatest actors of her generation–on stage and on screen. But our admiration goes beyond entertainment. Her passion and engagement is evident in her contributions as a role model for women and her mentorship of emerging film and theatre artists, as well as her long standing commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes. Through our partnership, we will work together to make positive changes in the world around us.”
Blanchett also stated, “I value the ambition of UNIQLO to make life better through its LifeWear apparel: timeless design, perfected simplicity, affordable, accessible, quality clothing that lasts.” She continued, “I am energised by the opportunity to help UNIQLO advance important aspects of its LifeWear philosophy-supporting the next generation, playing a part in highlighting and combatting the ongoing global displacement crisis, giving back to communities, and finding meaningful ways to contribute to a more equitable world. On top of that, to creatively reconnect with Clare Waight Keller and to be in dialogue with UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador, Roger Federer, is a privilege indeed.”
UNIQLO has previously appointed world-renowned athletes such as Roger Federer, Kei Nishikori, Shingo Kunieda, and Adam Scott as global brand ambassadors to communicate the value of its brand. While past ambassadors have primarily been symbols of the sports world, the appointment of actor Cate Blanchett marks a new direction for UNIQLO—one that connects fashion with social contribution.
