Chloe Malle Appointed as Vogue US’s New Head of Editorial Content

On September 2, Vogue US announced that Chloe Malle has been appointed as the new Head of Editorial Content. In this role, Malle will oversee the overall editorial and creative direction of the American edition, reporting directly to Anna Wintour.

Wintour will continue to serve as Condé Nast’s Chief Content Officer and Global Editorial Director, overseeing all 28 editions of Vogue worldwide, including the US edition. Notably, the “Editor-in-Chief” title she had held for nearly 40 years has been retired, with Malle now leading the day-to-day operations under this new structure.

At 39, Malle is the daughter of actor Candice Bergen and the late film director Louis Malle. She joined Vogue in 2011 as Social Editor, overseeing wedding and society coverage, before expanding her work to a wide range of areas including fashion, politics, beauty, and lifestyle. From 2016 to 2023, she contributed as a Contributing Editor, working on feature stories and special projects. In the fall of 2023, she was appointed Editor of Vogue.com, where she drove significant digital growth, doubling site traffic and delivering key achievements. She currently serves as Editor of Vogue.com while also co-hosting the weekly podcast The Run-Through.

In Vogue’s announcement, Malle commented on her appointment: “Fashion and media are both evolving at breakneck speed, and I am so thrilled—and awed—to be part of that. I also feel incredibly fortunate to still have Anna just down the hall as my mentor.”

Reflecting on her career, she added: “I’ve spent my career at Vogue working in roles across every platform—from print to digital, audio to video, events and social media. I love the title, I love the content we create, and I love the editors who create it. Vogue has already shaped who I am, now I’m excited at the prospect of shaping Vogue.”

Several names were floated for the position, including Eva Chen, Vice President of Fashion Partnerships at Meta; Nicole Phelps, Global Director of Vogue Runway and Vogue Business; and Sara Moonves, Editor-in-Chief of W Magazine. Among them, Malle’s long-standing experience within the company and her leadership in driving digital growth made her selection a natural choice for Vogue.

Anna Wintour also spoke about the appointment: “When it came to hiring someone to edit American Vogue, letting me turn my attention more intensely to Vogue’s multifaceted growth across its global audiences and publications and events like the Met Gala and Vogue World, I knew I had one chance to get it right. Chloe has proven often that she can find the balance between American Vogue’s long, singular history and its future on the front lines of the new. I am so excited to continue working with her, as her mentor but also as her student, while she leads us and our audiences where we’ve never been before.”
