Balenciaga Introduces New Fragrance Collection, Returning to Its Roots After 75 Years

Balenciaga

On September 10, Balenciaga unveiled a new collection of ten fragrances, marking its first major fragrance launch in 75 years. The collection reinterprets Le Dix, the house’s very first perfume created in 1947 by Cristóbal Balenciaga, blending the maison’s heritage with contemporary sensibilities.

The project began with a 15-year archival investigation that led to the rediscovery and revival of the original bottle. The new Le Dix incorporates iris absolute, violet leaf, and incense, giving a classical fragrance a modern update. The bottle design faithfully reproduces the original aesthetic, while also introducing refillable flacons and a spray dispenser to suit today’s lifestyle.

The Collection Lineup

Alongside Le Dix, the collection features fragrances inspired by the history and philosophy of the house:

  • No Comment: Reflects Cristóbal Balenciaga’s famous refusal to give interviews, expressed through resinous, woody notes.
  • Getaria: Evokes the designer’s birthplace on the Spanish coast, blending citrus, pink pepper, and seaweed absolute.
  • Cristóbal: A weighty composition of oud, patchouli, and oak moss, named in honor of the founder.
  • Incense Perfumum: Built around incense with cedarwood and labdanum, offering a mystical depth.

Other fragrances in the lineup include Extra, Muscura, and Twenty Four Seven, making for a total of ten unique scents. The pricing is set at €260 for a 100ml bottle, €320 for the discovery box, €130 for the travel spray case, and €395 for the bag charm.

The new fragrance collection launched today at Balenciaga’s newly opened fragrance boutique, located next to the couture store at the house’s historic address, 10 Avenue George V in Paris. The collection is also available at select boutiques across Europe and North America, as well as on the official online store. By early November, distribution will expand to Asia—including Japan—and the Middle East, with availability in around 200 stores worldwide.

Balenciaga CEO Gianfranco Gianangeli described the launch as “an exciting new chapter in Balenciaga’s couture and olfactive history. Fashion and fragrance have been in the house’s DNA for almost 80 years, and exist in harmony.”

Raffaella Cornaggia, CEO of Kering Beauté, added: “There was no better way to honour everything this wonderful house stands for than by bringing back the very first fragrance that Cristóbal created.”

Balenciaga’s new fragrance collection, steeped in heritage yet reimagined through a contemporary lens, transforms perfume into a medium that connects the maison’s history with its future. Through archival reinterpretation and innovative craftsmanship, the collection represents fragrance as couture expression in its purest form.
