Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who serve as co-creative directors of Oscar de la Renta, announced on September 17 that they will step down from their roles. After nearly nine years at the helm of the house, the pair will shift their full attention to Monse, the ready-to-wear label they co-founded in 2015.
From 2016 to Today
Kim and Garcia were appointed co-creative directors in 2016, two years after the passing of founder Oscar de la Renta, succeeding Peter Copping. During their tenure, they maintained the brand’s signature classical glamour while infusing it with a modern sensibility. Both began their careers at Oscar de la Renta before launching Monse, and also gained brief experience at Carolina Herrera before returning to the house.
In their Instagram post announcing the decision, the designers reflected: “We have spent half of our lives working with the incredible teams there plus the loving de la Renta family.”
They added: “It was a decision that came with much contemplation and while it is sad it is also exciting for all to begin new chapters next year. Laura and myself have nothing but magical memories and incredible gratitude to everyone at the company.”

What’s Next for Oscar de la Renta
Founded in New York in 1965 and globally renowned for evening wear and bridal gowns, Oscar de la Renta has been led for over two decades by CEO Alex Bolen. No successor has yet been announced. According to the brand, Kim and Garcia are expected to present their final collections with the house: a pre-fall collection in December 2025 to mark the maison’s 60th anniversary, followed by the Fall/Winter 2026 runway in February.
Monse at Its 10-Year Milestone
Meanwhile, Monse just celebrated its 10th anniversary. At its latest runway show, the label showcased expanded leather offerings and workwear-inspired looks, staged against a backdrop of fine art pieces borrowed from private collectors—underscoring the eclectic and distinctive spirit that defines the brand.
