Dario Vitale to Depart Versace After Only a Few Months in the Role

Versace Appoints Dario Vitale as Creative Chief

On December 4, it was revealed that Dario Vitale, the creative director of Versace, will leave the brand just a few months after taking on the position. According to Business of Fashion, his departure will be effective December 12, with the Prada Group describing the decision as a “mutual agreement.”

Before joining Versace, Vitale built his career at Miu Miu, where he worked closely with Miuccia Prada and played a key role in supporting the brand’s design direction over many years. His appointment at Versace — supported by his extensive experience within the Prada Group — was initially regarded as a symbolic step toward revitalizing the house.

Vitale also garnered attention as the first creative leader from outside the founding family. However, the collection he presented during Milan Fashion Week in September ultimately became his first and last runway for the brand.

His debut collection showcased a reinterpretation of the house’s DNA through Vitale’s lens, featuring vibrant denim, embellished bra tops, and tight, sculptural silhouettes. The lineup drew on 1980s aesthetics with contemporary proportions and materials, earning positive feedback from major retailers.

Departure Announced Shortly After Prada’s Acquisition

Vitale’s exit was announced just two days after the Prada Group formally completed its €1.25 billion acquisition of Versace from Capri Holdings.

Following the acquisition, Lorenzo Bertelli, the group’s heir apparent, was appointed executive chairman of Versace, marking a significant shift in leadership and laying the groundwork for a new organizational structure.

As for Vitale’s successor, the house stated that “a new creative configuration will be announced in due course.” During the transition period, the design team will operate under the guidance of CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger.
