Brioni Confirms Exit of Design Director Norbert Stumpfl

Brioni

On December 5, Italian luxury menswear house Brioni announced the departure of its design director Norbert Stumpfl, who has led the brand’s creative direction for the past seven years since his appointment in 2018.

Brioni became part of the Kering group in 2011, with the acquisition finalized the following year. Since then, the brand has undergone multiple shifts in its executive and creative structure, including organizational changes and a CEO transition between 2024 and 2025. Stumpfl’s departure appears to be part of this broader restructuring momentum.

In its official statement, the brand praised Stumpfl’s contributions: “During his tenure at Brioni, Norbert interpreted with precision the concepts of lightness and discretion, contributing to the evolution of the men’s wardrobe with a modern approach that pays homage to tradition.”

Stumpfl’s Creative Impact

A couturier from Austria, Stumpfl is known for his mastery of tailoring and his commitment to material innovation. His work includes tuxedo jackets woven with 24-karat gold threads and enzyme-treated silk–linen blends that produce a uniquely refined texture—designs that seamlessly merge traditional craftsmanship with forward-looking techniques.

During his tenure, he also strengthened Brioni’s womenswear offering, establishing a quietly luxurious and refined aesthetic. His approach balanced the brand’s classical sartorial heritage with an ability to resonate with a new generation of clients, solidifying a distinct creative identity for the house.

As of now, Brioni has not announced a successor following Stumpfl’s departure.
