On December 15, luxury fashion brand Rick Owens and its parent company Owenscorp announced that they will no longer use fur in any future collections. The decision follows a five-day protest campaign led by the Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade (CAFT).
As part of this policy shift, mink and beaver fur handbags previously sold on Rick Owens’ official online store have already been removed.

The fur-free policy was formally confirmed in an email sent by Owenscorp’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team to CAFT. In addition, a new statement has been added to the company’s website under its “Eco Aware” section.
The statement reads: “Over the past decade, we have gradually reduced and ultimately ceased the production of fur. We will not engage in fur production in the future.”
CAFT launched its campaign on December 10, 2025, staging protests across three major cities: London, Los Angeles, and New York. In New York, activists carried out a direct confrontation with Owenscorp CEO Daniela Soto Beltran. Additional protest actions took place at the Air France Lounge at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), where demonstrators confronted Tyrone Dylan, a longtime collaborator of Rick Owens as well as a designer and model.
Commenting on the announcement, Suzie Stork, Executive Director of CAFT, said:
“Fashion leaders can either evolve or fall behind. Rick Owens chose to evolve. We expect others who still profit from the cruel fur trade to take notice.”
She further added that the industry-wide shift away from fur is being driven by activist pressure.
“When powerful designers and institutions like Condé Nast, New York Fashion Week, and now Rick Owens go fur-free, it exposes just how out of step the remaining holdouts are.”
This announcement marks the latest milestone in CAFT’s long-running campaign history, which has targeted some of the fashion industry’s most prominent names, including Condé Nast, New York Fashion Week, and Marc Jacobs. The move underscores a renewed turning point in the ongoing debate surrounding ethics and sustainability within luxury fashion.
