Balenciaga Spectacularly Unveils Spring 2025 Collection at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai

On May 30, Balenciaga, led by Demna, presented its Spring 2025 collection at the Pudong Art Museum in Shanghai.
Unfortunately, the show was hit by rain, but the sound of rain falling in the silence of the night and the mysterious background music like sirens blended beautifully to create a moody atmosphere on the runway.
Ever since the 2022 holiday campaign sparked a firestorm, the brand has been struggling to climb back up from the valley from which it fell. As can be seen from the last few collections, artistic director Demna has been reexamining the house’s inherent aesthetic and going back to the roots of its clothing-making instead of trying to create an image or buzz.
The show began and featured a variety of blazers and trench coats with oversized tailoring. These all-black formal wear with their large, emphasized shoulders and long sleeves that hide the hands were in perfect harmony with the loose-fitting pants.
The Balenciaga style was further enhanced by the massive platform boots with a sole over 30 centimeters long. The leg part of the boots is quite slender in contrast to the sole, providing a beautiful strength to the overall silhouette when combined with oversized clothes.
The collection also featured several special collaborative items. The collection created with Under Armour showcased a total of eight items, including hoodies, T-shirts, and caps featuring the logos of the two brands.
In addition, a collaboration T-shirt with Alipay, one of China’s largest mobile payment platforms provided by China’s Alibaba Group, was also introduced, attracting attention as an item that uniquely incorporates Chinese culture. These products have been available online and in some stores since the show.
Toward the middle of the show, dresses with prints reminiscent of nature and animals caught the eye. The dress in Look 18 was as brightly colored as the feathers of a light blue bird. The femininity of spring blooming flowers was captured in the dress of Look 20.
Furthermore, the crocodile crocodile pattern in Look 22 and the bold pattern in Look 24, which resembled an eagle soaring in the sky, both dresses evoked a sense of feminine strength.
As the show approached its second half, the finale was further enlivened by the presence of evening styles. The runway was enveloped in a luxurious red-carpet atmosphere as gowns with a sheen of crinkled and wrapped gold foil appeared.
The pale blue floral print gown worn by the marionette-like model had a voluminous silhouette reminiscent of 18th-century Europe. A large ribbon is attached to the center portion of the gown to further emphasize its opulence. Also catching the eye was an elegant black velvet gown decorated with ribbons, hearts, and jewelry motifs.
A puffy white gown that could have been the star of the wedding, with a large ribbon at the waist, gave it a classic yet modern feel. The black gown that followed was simple but striking, with its black silky texture contrasting with the white gloves.
The show concluded with a pink gown with feathers all over, expressing the flamboyance and grandeur of this collection.
