Boucheron Opens Its First Flagship Boutique in China in Shanghai’s Xintiandi

Boucheron

The French high jeweler Boucheron has opened its first flagship boutique in China, located in Shanghai’s Xintiandi district. This new location marks the Maison’s third flagship worldwide, following its historic flagship at Place Vendôme in Paris and its Ginza flagship in Tokyo, representing a significant milestone in Boucheron’s global expansion strategy. It also stands as a symbolic achievement of the Asia-focused strategy led by CEO Hélène Poulit-Duquesne, who has headed the Maison since 2015.

Conceived as a cultural bridge between China and France, the boutique is designed as a space where heritage and innovation coexist—core values long upheld by the Maison. Like its counterparts in Place Vendôme and Ginza, the boutique incorporates elements of nature throughout, offering visitors a serene and immersive journey. The space is defined by a harmonious dialogue between different cultures, expressed as a unified aesthetic language.

A Fusion of Historic Architecture and Art Deco Design

The Boucheron Xintiandi flagship is housed in a restored 19th-century Shikumen building, respectfully preserving its historical character while integrating Art Deco design codes. Symmetry, metallic accents, and emerald-cut motifs are woven into the space, harmonizing with Shanghai’s distinctive architectural identity to create an elegant and unmistakably Boucheron universe.

At the entrance, a gazebo inspired by a contemporary reinterpretation of the “Jardin d’Hiver” at the Paris flagship welcomes guests, while a second entrance features a moon gate inspired by traditional Chinese gardens—serving as a symbolic passage between cultures.

The first salon inside the boutique is designed according to Feng Shui principles, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere. Warmth is added through woodwork and marble details, naturally guiding visitors deeper into the space. At its center, artist Xiaojin Yang presents a “Lingzhi Forest,” where Boucheron’s iconic Serpent Bohème and Quatre collections are displayed. Above, a dreamlike dome painted by Claire Nicolet enhances the immersive natural ambiance. Additional works by Olga Touné-Larsen and Inka Lam Ka Yu further connect French and Chinese artistic sensibilities.

On the second floor, a VIP salon retains the charm of traditional Shikumen architecture. Featuring an homage to A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains by de Gournay and works by contemporary artist Peng Yong, the space becomes a quiet intersection of history and modernity.

An Immersive Opening Event Connecting Paris and Shanghai

The opening event was held at The Grand Halls in Shanghai, where scenography guided guests into the Maison’s world. Marble reminiscent of Place Vendôme and intricate marquetry installations set the stage for a dialogue between Paris and Shanghai.

Within the venue, archival pieces representing Boucheron’s four creative pillars—Vendôme, Nature, Innovation, and Couture—were displayed, offering a comprehensive view of the Maison’s aesthetic philosophy. The 2026 high jewelry collection, “Nom: Boucheron, Prénom: Frédéric,” was also unveiled, reinterpreting the founder’s spirit through contemporary creations.

At the center of the space, a jeweler’s workbench hosted a live demonstration of the iconic Question Mark necklace, highlighting the Maison’s craftsmanship. On screen, brand ambassadors Zhou Dongyu and Xiao Zhan appeared, embodying the narrative that connects Place Vendôme and Xintiandi.

A Ceremony Bridging Heritage and Future

The grand opening ceremony took place at the Xintiandi boutique, attended by Hélène Poulit-Duquesne, Zhou Dongyu, and Xiao Zhan. A lighting display across the façade symbolized the journey from Paris to Shanghai, expressing how the Maison’s spirit transcends time and geography.

On March 19, an elegant gala dinner inspired by the historic banquets of Paris’s Petit Palais was also held. The evening featured a blend of archival footage, model presentations, and contemporary dance, creating a multisensory experience that celebrated Boucheron’s enduring legacy.
