This fall, luxury maison CHANEL will unveil “Galerie du 19M Tokyo” atop the 52nd floor of Roppongi Hills Mori Tower. Running from September 30 to October 20, 2025, the exhibition marks the first full-scale presentation in Japan by le19M (pronounced le dix-neuf M), the Paris-based hub dedicated to preserving and evolving the craftsmanship behind CHANEL’s Métiers d’art.

Established in 2021 in Paris, le19M brings together 11 maisons d’art and over 700 artisans who specialize in fields ranging from embroidery and featherwork to shoemaking, pleating, and millinery. The Galerie du 19M, housed within this complex, serves as both a public-facing cultural platform and an educational space that introduces the exquisite techniques of these crafts to a wider audience.

The Tokyo edition of the gallery unfolds in three chapters:

The first, “The Festival,” features a monumental installation designed by acclaimed architect Tsuyoshi Tane and his studio ATTA, transforming the space into a sensorial celebration of the savoir-faire practiced by the artisans of le19M.

The second chapter, “Beyond Our Horizons,” presents works by around 30 Japanese and French creators, many of which were co-produced with le19M’s maisons. The curatorial team includes five influential figures from Japan’s creative scene: Momoko Ando, Yoichi Nishio, Shinichiro Ogata, Kayo Tokuda, and Aska Yamashita.

The final chapter, “Lesage, 100 Years of Fashion and Decoration,” is a retrospective honoring the embroidery house Lesage, showcasing iconic archival works and masterful creations that span a century of craftsmanship and innovation.

CHANEL shared the following statement regarding the exhibition: “Visitors of all ages will marvel at the richness of the Japanese and French heritages and the modernity of their contemporary interpretations.”

Beyond being an art space, Galerie du 19M is envisioned as a platform for transmission and inspiration, engaging children, students, professionals, families, and creative hobbyists alike. By bridging artistic disciplines and offering rare insights into artisanal mastery, it encourages new modes of thinking and career aspirations.

CHANEL’s relationship with Japan spans decades, from its first Tokyo runway show in 1978 to the 2004 Métiers d’art exhibition at its Ginza flagship. The upcoming Galerie du 19M Tokyo builds upon this ongoing dialogue, creating a unique encounter between French and Japanese artistry and aesthetics.
