On February 25, Milan Fashion Week opened its dazzling week with Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection. The venue was transformed into a grand, immersive space where mirrored interlocking Gs shimmered across the floor and ceiling, creating a mesmerizing vortex of light.

This collection debuted just three weeks after the announcement of creative director Sabato De Sarno’s departure. With no successor yet named, Gucci’s internal design team took the reins, reshaping the brand’s vision while staying true to its heritage.

The press release stated, “A continuum of craft, taste, and culture—Gucci is a fashion house that has many ‘owners’ and guardians across time. Craftspeople and artisans, creative directors and designers, communicators, and customers, each weaving their own unique history into the brand.” At the close of the show, the entire team took the stage for a collective bow. Just as the design team led the collections following Alessandro Michele’s departure, this collection once again sought to uphold Gucci’s legacy while bridging it to a new generation.

Gucci’s Evolving Codes, Rooted in Tradition

Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection blended the opulence of the 1960s jet-set era with contemporary sensibilities, creating an aesthetic that was both nostalgic and modern.

A defining feature of the collection was the interplay between sensuality and structure, where lingerie-inspired elements were juxtaposed with sharply tailored pieces. Lacy, sheer bralettes were styled with the clean lines of pencil skirts and voluminous fur coats, striking an elegant equilibrium that transformed the look into a refined yet subtly provocative bourgeois style.

Furthermore, micro-mini A-line dresses were styled with silk scarves tied over baseball caps, seamlessly merging past elegance with a contemporary streetwear aesthetic. Meanwhile, pastel pink patent leather skirt suits were reinterpreted through oversized, boxy silhouettes, offering a fresh perspective on classic tailoring.

A mustard-colored peacoat took on an even bolder oversized structure, emphasizing a sculptural form that evoked the charm of a vintage doll’s wardrobe, exuding a distinctly retro allure.

The menswear looks that followed showcased outerwear and striped duffle coats as statement pieces, layered over monochrome tailored suits that exuded a refined, sophisticated elegance. Car coats played with texture and contrast, appearing in tweed, vinyl, and patina-treated animal prints, injecting a sense of playfulness into the collection.

Additionally, gray suits were accented with lavender and pink inner layers, softening their traditionally masculine edge and infusing them with a delicate, feminine touch—offering a fresh reinterpretation of classic tailoring with an unexpected nuance.

Who Will Shape the “Next Gucci”?

Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection marks a strategic reset as the house looks toward its future. While Sabato De Sarno’s collections were criticized for leaning too heavily into commercialism, this season took a more neutral approach, drawing inspiration from Maison’s archives while refining and modernizing its legacy.

The design team’s craftsmanship was undoubtedly impressive. Yet, the real question lingering in the fashion world is: Who will be Gucci’s next creative director? And more importantly, how will their vision steer the brand’s direction in the years to come?

At this moment, Gucci has yet to announce a successor. However, with declining sales and an urgent need for a compelling new strategy, the next leadership decision will be more crucial than ever. Where is Gucci headed next? The entire fashion industry is watching, waiting for the moment when the answer is revealed.
