Harajuku Quest, a mixed-use commercial complex located in Tokyo’s Harajuku district, is set to relaunch as a new hub for cultural expression. It has been announced that a pop-up space, THE HALL, and a restaurant, THE TUNNEL, will open on the building’s underground floor. Both venues are developed by the creative agency en one tokyo, known for projects centered around art and culture, and are envisioned as a new type of community space where people and creative ideas can intersect.

Harajuku has long been recognized as a global epicenter of youth culture, a neighborhood where countless creators, designers, and brands have drawn inspiration. The new initiative seeks to build on this historical legacy while establishing a renewed platform for generating fresh cultural perspectives and creative energy in the district.

The overall concept and visual identity of the facility were developed with the participation of creative studio YAR, led by artist and art director YOSHIROTTEN. The studio contributed to the project from the design stage, overseeing elements ranging from the logo design to interior signage and spatial direction, shaping the overall aesthetic and narrative of the venue.

Speaking about the project, YOSHIROTTEN commented: “In Harajuku, over its long history, various cultures and trends have been born. Young people inspired by them became creators themselves, generating new movements in an ongoing cycle of creativity. However, it also feels as though the unique ‘energy’ that Harajuku once had is gradually changing. While inheriting the energy built by those who came before us and passing it on to the next generation, I wanted to create something that once again symbolizes the essence of ‘Harajuku.’ That was the spirit behind this project. The concept of ‘duality’ is a key word that expresses Harajuku Quest. Mainstream and subculture, major and underground, physical and digital—these different realms intersect in the Harajuku of the future. This philosophy is also reflected in the new logo.”

Located on the underground level, THE HALL will function as a creative space designed to host pop-up events, exhibitions, and other cultural programming. Adjacent to it, THE TUNNEL is conceived as a restaurant and gathering place where visitors can connect and interact. Together, the two spaces aim to foster a new type of cultural community where people, ideas, and creative practices naturally converge.

To celebrate the opening, a limited-time installation titled Quiet Underground: Energy, Sound and Time will take place from March 14 to March 29, 2026. Created by YOSHIROTTEN, the installation reconstructs narratives of creativity born in Harajuku, drawing inspiration from the atmosphere and history of the underground space itself.

During the exhibition period, evening programs will also be held, linking THE HALL and THE TUNNEL as a shared venue. Individuals connected to Harajuku and the exhibition will curate music sessions, creating a dynamic cultural environment throughout the 16-day event. The project is envisioned as an experimental platform where art, music, and community intersect, presenting a new vision for Harajuku’s cultural landscape.
