French luxury maison Longchamp has announced that it has obtained B Corp™ certification. B Corp, an independent international certification, evaluates a company’s social and environmental practices based on measured and audited standards. The recognition marks international acknowledgment of the house’s long-standing commitments.
A Philosophy of Making — Questioning “Use” and “Lifespan”
At the core of Longchamp’s approach to craftsmanship lies a simple yet fundamental question: “What is this product made for? And how long can it be used?”
The design philosophy the company calls “Made by Longchamp” prioritizes high-quality materials, precise craftsmanship, and ease of repair from the earliest stages of conception. Finished products are created with the assumption that they will be “worn, repaired, and passed down to the next generation.” Rather than chasing trends, the house aims to create pieces that retain their value over time.
Concrete Commitments, Backed by Numbers
This philosophy is not merely conceptual—it is supported by measurable action.
Longchamp operates 33 repair centers worldwide and repaired 80,000 items in 2025 alone. In terms of sourcing, the company uses materials certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), and its leather adheres to the Gold standard of the Leather Working Group.
Diversity within the organization is also notable: 80% of its workforce and 68% of its managers are women, reflecting a structure built on equal opportunity.
Passing Down Craftsmanship and Institutional Responsibility
This long-term vision is sustained by what the company calls the “Longchamp Family” — its teams, workshops, and artisans. The brand describes them as “the lifeblood of the Maison” and explains their role as “a collective endeavour that passes down skills to the next generation, attentive to both personal development and perpetuating artisanal expertise.”
Regarding the certification, the company states: “B Corp certification structures our socioenvironmental commitments and holds us accountable for how we move forward, methodically and responsibly. It also strengthens our ability to look at our designs, practices and impact through a long-term lens.”
At the same time, Longchamp emphasizes that the certification does not represent a shift in identity: “At Longchamp, being a certified B Corp doesn’t change who we are.”
“It simply recognises what we’re already doing and what we’ve already achieved.”
On the Continuum of 78 Years
In closing, the maison reiterates its enduring stance: “Longchamp has been and is committed to sustainable creativity. For the last 78 years. And for a long time to come.”
While B Corp certification has gained increasing traction within the fashion industry in recent years, Longchamp’s message suggests that this milestone is less about adaptation to a new standard and more about formalizing a philosophy embedded since its founding. Repairability, responsible material selection, the transmission of craftsmanship, and organizational diversity — it is this long-term perspective across all dimensions of the business that defines the true significance of the certification.
