Los Angeles-based contemporary brand Madhappy will open a new flagship store in Malibu, California, on March 21. As the brand’s fourth flagship following West Hollywood, New York, and Tokyo, the new location is conceived as a space where visitors can fully experience the brand’s world.
Located along the Pacific Coast Highway overlooking the ocean, the approximately 2,400-square-foot store goes beyond a traditional retail environment. Designed as a place where conversations naturally emerge, it fosters connections between people and place. Through its design and café, the space offers a distinctive Madhappy community experience.
A Space Inspired by West Coast Light and Openness
The store was designed in collaboration with London-based design studio Brinkworth. While building upon the visual language established in previous locations, the space incorporates the light and atmosphere of Malibu, resulting in a bright and open environment.
The architecture features a minimal structure using glass, steel, and concrete, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Limestone display elements and expansive windows further enhance the dialogue with the surrounding landscape.
Additionally, planting by Los Angeles-based interior plant design studio Plant Provisions adds a natural layer to the space, evoking a sense of calm and immersion in nature.
Pantry Café as a Hub for New Experiences
The store also includes Pantry, Madhappy’s café concept. The café brings together a range of local and global partners, offering a diverse menu.
Participants include Japanese café HOTEL DRUGS, Los Angeles favorite Courage Bagels, bakery Bianca, and modern Persian concept Sobuneh. They are joined by Beverly Hills Juice, Cinnies, and Softside, a New York-born soft serve brand making its West Coast debut, creating a wide-ranging culinary offering.
Limited Collections and Collaborations
To celebrate the opening, a special Malibu-exclusive capsule collection will be available in-store. The space will also feature the brand’s seasonal Classics collections, along with recent collaborative projects with Hanes, PUMA, and Paraboot.
An Optimistic Philosophy at Its Core
Founded in Los Angeles in 2017, Madhappy has built its identity around optimism. Beyond apparel, the brand has cultivated a community through events, publishing, and immersive retail spaces.
Its initiatives include the publication of Local Optimist magazine and efforts to support mental health awareness through the Madhappy Foundation.
The Malibu flagship represents a physical extension of this philosophy—offering not only a place to shop, but a space to connect, gather, and experience time together. It marks a new chapter in how the brand brings its vision to life.
