Luxury outerwear brand Moncler designed the official opening and closing ceremony uniforms for Team Brazil at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, which opened on February 6. For the 2026 Games, Moncler participated in the project as the official sponsor of the Brazilian Olympic Committee.

The uniforms were co-designed by Moncler under the creative direction of its Chairman and CEO, Remo Ruffini, in collaboration with Brazilian designer Oskar Metsavaht. The ceremonial collection brings together Brazil’s cultural identity with Moncler’s long-standing expertise in performance-driven winter sports apparel.

The Flag Bearer Look and Custom White Cape That Defined the Opening Ceremony

During the opening ceremony, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, a Moncler Grenoble brand ambassador, appeared as Team Brazil’s flag bearer, leading the delegation into the stadium.

The flag bearer wore a specially created white cape, featuring an intarsia-lined Brazilian flag on the interior. Inspired by Moncler’s iconic Karakorum jacket, the cape incorporated signature elements such as a double-button front, a chest pocket, and a hood derived from expedition wear.

Team Brazil’s Blue and Green Uniforms Inspired by the National Flag

The rest of Team Brazil followed in custom-designed looks dominated by blue and green tones referencing the Brazilian flag. All uniforms were finished with the Brazilian star, the Brazilian Olympic Committee crest, and the Moncler logo.

The blue ensembles were centered around Moncler’s signature puffer jackets, styled with shorts for men and skirts for women. Footwear came in the form of specially designed Moncler Altive winter boots.

Shared Roots Behind the Design Collaboration

For Oskar Metsavaht, the project marked a return to the creative roots that shaped his career. In 1997, Metsavaht competed representing Brazil in the FIS Snowboard Giant Slalom, securing third place in Valle Nevado, Chile. His first garment was a coat designed for an expedition in the Andes, establishing a lifelong connection between sport, the outdoors, and design.

For Moncler, Milano Cortina 2026 also carried particular significance. The brand’s last Olympic involvement dates back to the 1968 Winter Games in Grenoble. Nearly six decades later, the event marked Moncler’s return to the world’s most prestigious winter sports stage on home soil in Italy.

The shared history of winter sports and modern lifestyle exploration formed a clear foundation for the project. The result is a uniform that balances performance requirements for extreme conditions with sculptural elegance and symbolic presence appropriate for an Olympic ceremony.
