On February 5, Italian luxury maison Versace announced the appointment of Pieter Mulier as its new Chief Creative Officer, effective July 1, 2026.

The appointment marks the first major creative decision since the completion of Versace’s acquisition by Prada Group. In an official statement, the Group and Versace described the decision as a significant turning point for the brand’s future.

A Career Shaped Alongside Raf Simons, and Success at Alaïa

Belgian designer Pieter Mulier has consistently built a clear and distinctive aesthetic throughout his career. Long regarded as the right-hand man of Raf Simons, Mulier has played a key role in the success of major fashion houses including Raf Simons, Jil Sander, Dior, and Calvin Klein.

Since 2021, he has served as Creative Director of Paris-based Alaïa, where he has led the house with collections defined by sculptural strength and precision. Under his direction, Alaïa has earned strong critical acclaim while also achieving notable commercial growth, particularly in accessories—demonstrating Mulier’s ability to balance creative integrity with business performance.

A New Creative Structure Facing Versace’s Legacy

Mulier will report to Lorenzo Bertelli, Executive Chairman of Versace.

Commenting on the appointment, Bertelli stated in the official release: “When we considered the Versace acquisition, we identified Pieter Mulier as the right person for the brand. We believe that he can truly unlock Versace’s full potential and that he will be able to engage in a fruitful dialogue with the brand’s strong legacy. We are excited to begin this journey together.”

Founded on the bold sensuality and daring vision of Gianni Versace, and later evolved under the modern leadership of Donatella Versace, the house carries a powerful and unmistakable legacy. How Mulier—armed with a sculptural and architectural approach to design—will reinterpret and rebuild Versace’s iconic world will become clearer through his forthcoming collections.
