Soho House Tokyo

The UK-born global membership club Soho House will open its first location in Japan, Soho House Tokyo, on April 6, 2026, in Tokyo’s Aoyama/Omotesando district. Spanning approximately 75,000 square feet, the property will house guest rooms, a rooftop pool, and a wellness studio, with annual membership fees reaching up to ¥620,000.

Founded in 1995 in London by Nick Jones, Soho House has become an internationally recognized private members’ club catering primarily to creatives and cultural figures. Today, it operates across major global cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Berlin, Paris, and Milan, positioning itself as a central hub within the global creative network. Its expansion into Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo (3-8-35 Minami-Aoyama, Minato-ku), is expected to serve as a key strategic base for its growth across Asia.

A Multi-Layered Urban Destination

The Tokyo property brings together a wide range of functions within a single space: a two-floor club area, a rooftop pool and terrace of approximately 4,000 square feet, a wellness studio on the 13th floor, event spaces, and 42 guest rooms. From the rooftop, visitors can enjoy panoramic views stretching across Tokyo Tower and even Mount Fuji.

Reinterpreting Japanese Culture Through Design

The interior concept centers on the fusion of British maximalism and Japanese craftsmanship. At the main entrance on the ground floor, the reception desk features lacquer panels by Kyoto-based Makino Urushi Studio, while the walls are finished with handmade washi paper by KAMISM.

The 13th-floor club lounge is defined by a deep burgundy palette inspired by traditional Japanese lacquer, contrasted with classic British paneling. The ceiling incorporates motifs derived from tatami patterns, reinforcing a dialogue between cultural traditions.

A wooden spiral staircase connecting the 13th and 14th floors serves as one of the building’s signature design elements. On the 14th floor, the club bar juxtaposes Murano glass chandeliers with washi lighting, centered around a leather-clad bar topped with onyx. The space also includes a DJ booth, allowing it to transition into a live venue in the evening.

The food and beverage offering blends European comfort classics with Japanese local flavors. The menu ranges from weekly rotating donburi dishes to British pub staples such as roast chicken, creating a cross-cultural culinary experience.

A sushi counter on the 13th floor serves traditional Edomae sushi, while the House Kitchen offers British cuisine incorporating seasonal Japanese ingredients in a sharing format. Signature dishes include fish and chips and a wagyu sausage roll with black garlic sauce.

Cocktails further reflect this cultural fusion, featuring Japanese ingredients and aromas. Drinks such as the “Highball Fifty,” infused with jasmine and shiso, highlight a reinterpretation of local flavor profiles.

Wellness as a Social Framework

The wellness studio on the 13th floor features floor-to-ceiling windows, offering an open and light-filled environment. Programs include yoga, Pilates, and HIIT, with the space divided into two zones—one focused on mat-based practices and the other on reformer Pilates and more dynamic training.

Complementing the experience is a curated selection of beverages designed to support wellbeing, including smoothies, sencha, and kombucha, positioning wellness as an integral part of the social ecosystem.

Guest Rooms Rooted in Craft

The 42 guest rooms are unified by a color palette inspired by Japanese tea. Interiors incorporate upcycled vintage kimono fabrics, sakiori textiles, lacquer-finished bedside tables by Makino Urushi, and bathrooms featuring Nagoya tiles—embedding regional craftsmanship throughout the space.

Each room includes a private balcony with views over the city. Staff uniforms were developed in collaboration with Onitsuka Tiger, based on the brand’s “DENIVITA™” series inspired by Japanese denim.

An Art Collection Embedded in Space

The property will showcase works by more than 40 artists with ties to Japan, either through origin or practice. Approximately one-third of the collection consists of commissioned works created specifically for the space.

Highlights include “Bride (Contingency)” by Yuko Mohri and the large-scale wall-based media installation “data.scape [universe]” by Ryoji Ikeda, both internationally acclaimed works that reinforce the project’s cultural positioning.

Beyond a Members’ Club

Looking ahead, the brand will also launch its “Soho Mentorship” program in Tokyo starting September 2026, aimed at supporting emerging creative talent. This initiative signals a broader ambition: to position Soho House Tokyo not only as a members’ club, but as a platform for nurturing the next generation of creatives.
