On July 25, OpenFashion Inc., a company promoting the fusion of fashion and technology, announced the results of the “TOKYO AI Fashion Week 2025 A/W Contest,” a fashion design competition utilizing generative AI.

The contest was one of the featured programs within “TOKYO AI Fashion Week – 2025 A/W” and invited creators from around the world to design fashion concepts and visuals using generative AI under the seasonal theme of Autumn/Winter 2025. Participants were tasked with conceptualizing and visualizing their designs end-to-end, with AI as a creative collaborator.

This year’s theme, “Neo-Japonisme,” called on entrants to explore new interpretations of Japanese aesthetics through the lens of tradition and future, culture and technology.

Grand Prize: “KAWAII VANGUARD” by SaYaKa

The Grand Prize was awarded to “KAWAII VANGUARD” by SaYaKa, a work that skillfully fused the five elements, the physicality of androids, and symbolic aspects of Lolita fashion. The result was a compelling visual universe that captured the judges’ attention with its originality and balance.

Olga, CEO of ish Inc., fashion tech designer, associate professor at Kyoritsu Women’s University, and guest associate professor at Digital Hollywood University, commented: “What makes this work exceptional is how it balances the expressive power of AI with fashion sensibility. The harmony between color, composition, and the AI-driven expression was outstanding.”

She added, “The integration of symbolic elements, such as the five elements, android embodiment, and Lolita signifiers, was meticulously orchestrated. The piece clearly demonstrates a multifaceted use of generative AI, not as a convenient image generator but as a co-creative partner in the concept-making process. Above all, it radiated the joy of creation.”

Excellence Award: “UKIYOE” by Marshmellaxy

One of the Excellence Awards went to “UKIYOE” by Marshmellaxy, a piece that leveraged generative AI to propose innovative textiles and construction techniques difficult or nearly impossible to realize with current technologies.

Kaname Murakami, Editor-in-Chief of WWD JAPAN, praised the work: “This piece reflects what I believe to be the ideal use of AI: imagining garments that are technically unfeasible today or would otherwise require tremendous time and effort to produce. It’s a powerful demonstration of AI’s potential in creative design.”
