On March 3, Warner Bros. announced plans to open a flagship store dedicated to the Harry Potter series on Oxford Street, one of London’s most prominent shopping destinations, this autumn.
The store will span approximately 21,000 square feet (around 1,950 square meters) across two floors. It will serve as a major hub in London following the existing store at King’s Cross Station. Once opened, it is expected to become the largest flagship Harry Potter store among the brand’s official retail locations worldwide.
The site will be located near the intersection of Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, one of the city’s most active commercial districts. In recent years, the area has drawn renewed attention as major brands expand their presence there, supported by ongoing urban redevelopment aimed at revitalizing the retail environment.
An Interactive Retail Experience Inspired by the Wizarding World
Rather than functioning solely as a traditional retail space, the new store is designed as an immersive experiential destination. The interior will feature recreations inspired by iconic locations from the film and book series, along with dedicated photo opportunities and interactive elements that allow visitors to engage with the wizarding world.
The merchandise assortment is expected to include exclusive items such as apparel and accessories developed specifically for the location.
Karl Durrant, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Retail at Warner Bros., commented on the significance of the new store: “Harry Potter is deeply rooted in British storytelling and this will give fans an exciting new way to experience this magical world in the city that features so prominently in the stories. Offering a completely new retail experience for Harry Potter fans which will delight and entertain, it’s going to be very special.”
A New Hub Connected to London’s Harry Potter Attractions
The store will be within walking distance of the Palace Theatre, where the stage production Harry Potter and the Cursed Child continues to run. Its location places it along a key route frequently visited by international fans.
London already hosts a small official Harry Potter shop at King’s Cross Station, where visitors can take photos recreating the iconic trolley scene at Platform 9¾. Meanwhile, outside the city, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter offers fans an opportunity to explore the behind-the-scenes world of the films and remains one of the UK’s most popular entertainment attractions.
The upcoming flagship store is expected to complement these existing experiences while establishing a new central destination for fans in the heart of London.
Opening Around the Franchise’s 25th Anniversary
The launch also coincides with a milestone moment for the franchise. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the first installment in the cinematic series based on the novels by J.K. Rowling.
Looking ahead, a television adaptation of Rowling’s books is also in development at HBO, which aims to explore the wizarding world in greater detail than the original films.
As of 2023, the Harry Potter novels have sold more than 600 million copies worldwide. The film series has generated approximately $7.7 billion at the global box office, making it one of the most successful franchises in cinematic history.
