On January 27, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and the New York-based fashion brand Veronica Beard announced the launch of a new scholarship program, the CFDA x Veronica Beard Creative Futures Scholarship. This initiative focuses on fostering diversity and creativity, targeting undergraduate juniors majoring in fashion design or textiles at colleges and universities across the United States.

The scholarship highlights four design categories: denim, knits & sweaters, ready-to-wear, and soft wovens. Three finalists will be selected from each category, and one winner from each category will receive a $50,000 scholarship. Additionally, the winners will have the opportunity to participate in a summer internship at Veronica Beard’s New York City headquarters. This internship will allow them to collaborate closely with the brand’s design team and other departments, gaining practical, hands-on experience.

“We are so excited about the opportunity to mentor and inspire the next generation of designer talent. We also fully expect that we’ll be the ones inspired at the end of the day,” said Veronica Miele Beard.

“Access and exposure are key, especially so early in these students’ careers. We are so thrilled to be partnering with the CFDA and share their commitment to supporting the fashion designers of tomorrow,” added Veronica Swanson Beard.

Steven Kolb, CEO of CFDA, also expressed high expectations for the scholarship’s impact on the U.S. fashion industry. “This year, we dedicate all our scholarships in honor Elsa Klensch, the pioneering journalist and two-time decorated CFDA Fashion Awards recipient, who generously supported the CFDA’s commitment to education through her estate” he said.

Through this program, Veronica Beard not only aims to nurture the next generation of designers but also hopes to share its design philosophy and shape the future of the American fashion industry. Since its founding in 2010, the brand has been offering “cool classics” tailored to modern women. Moreover, since 2015, Veronica Beard has supported over 650 organizations and donated more than $6.3 million to causes they care about, demonstrating its strong commitment to social responsibility.

Applications for the CFDA x Veronica Beard Creative Futures Scholarship close on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. EST. A virtual information session will also be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EST, and registration is available here.
