Gucci Announces Sabato De Sarno’s Exit

Sabato De Sarno

On February 6, luxury fashion house Gucci announced the end of its collaboration with Creative Director Sabato De Sarno. As a result, the Fall/Winter 2025 collection, set to be unveiled in Milan on February 25, will be designed by Gucci’s design office. The successor to De Sarno will be officially announced in due course.

Following the announcement, Stefano Cantino, CEO of Gucci, expressed his gratitude to De Sarno, stating: “I would like to express my deep gratitude to Sabato for his passion and dedication to Gucci. I sincerely appreciate how he honored Gucci’s craftsmanship and heritage with such commitment.”

Francesca Bellettini, Deputy CEO of Kering in charge of brand development, also commented: “I sincerely thank Sabato for his loyalty and professionalism. I am proud of the work that has been done to further strengthen Gucci’s fundamentals. Stefano and the new Artistic Direction will continue to build on this and to guide Gucci towards renewed fashion leadership and sustainable growth.”

From Appointment to Departure: De Sarno’s Tenure at Gucci

Sabato De Sarno was appointed Creative Director of Gucci in January 2023, succeeding Alessandro Michele. His debut collection, Gucci Ancora, presented at Milan Fashion Week in September 2023, reinterpreted the brand’s iconic elegance with a more minimalist and refined aesthetic. However, amid sluggish sales and the need for a strategic brand recalibration, Gucci has decided to part ways with De Sarno after a tenure of approximately two years.

De Sarno’s departure comes amid a wave of creative shifts sweeping through Europe’s leading fashion houses. Just days ago, Kim Jones announced his resignation from Dior Homme, with his successor yet to be named. As the industry experiences a rapid succession of designer changes, all eyes are now on Gucci’s next artistic vision and how it will redefine its creative direction.

The luxury market has entered an era where traditional craftsmanship alone is no longer sufficient—brands must seamlessly integrate digital innovation and sustainability into their strategies. In this evolving landscape, Gucci faces the challenge of preserving its iconic brand DNA while embracing a new creative direction suited to the times. The next move will be a defining moment that could shape the Maison’s future in the ever-evolving fashion world.
