Italian fashion house Blumarine has announced the appointment of Walter Chiapponi as creative director. Chiapponi’s first collection for Blumarine will be presented for the first time at Milan Fashion Week in February 2024.
Chiapponi has been the Creative Director of Tod’s since 2019, overseeing the menswear and womenswear design teams. However, he has just stepped down from his position after the Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
In a statement, Chiapponi said, “I am delighted to have been appointed creative director of an iconic Italian brand that has outlined over time an idea of femininity that is defined by lightness and creativity. The possibility of contributing to establishing a new phase for Blumarine is for me an opportunity to embrace new thrilling and important horizons, to expand my vision and to restore sense to artistic expression.”
“I am confident that Walter Chiapponi, with his internationally recognized talent and his fine stylistic sensibility, will bring new energy to Blumarine while honoring the brand’s extraordinary heritage,” said the director of Eccellenze Italiane, the holding company that owns Blumarine, Marco Marchi, in a statement.
Chiapponi’s last collection at Tod’s, and the aesthetic he has created thus far, was devoted to tight suits and shapely silhouettes. How will Chiapponi’s sophisticated design techniques be fused with the Y2K-ified, relaxed mood that has become synonymous with the Blumarine? We look forward to the presentation of his first collection at next season’s Milan Fashion Week.
