On April 29, Chanel unveiled its Cruise 2026 collection at the prestigious Villa d’Este, a historic hotel nestled on the shores of Lake Como, Italy. This show served as a kind of interlude, arriving after the departure of former artistic director Virginie Viard and just before the official debut of her successor, Matthieu Blazy. At the same time, it was a tribute to the enduring relationship Chanel has cultivated over the years with Italian craftsmanship.

In the cinematic setting of Villa d’Este, a host of the house’s ambassadors and longtime friends—including Lupita Nyong’o, Keira Knightley, Sofia Coppola, Margaret Qualley, and Nana Komatsu—gathered to witness the presentation. A refined, open-air café-style stage was set on the lakeside terrace, where the show unfolded to the sound of classic Italian music.

Opening the show was a series of five white looks—an elegant prelude to summer that fused refinement with lightness. Tweed coat dresses, mini dresses paired with cropped jackets, and silhouettes adorned with delicate embroidery and layered frills swayed gracefully in the sunlight by the lake. Relaxed knitwear sets and flared skirts accented with camellias further reflected the carefree spirit of a luxury resort escape.

The show continued with pastel-colored dresses featuring striped patterns, airy tweeds, delicate frills, and intricate embroidery—each look evoking a sense of refined elegance and breezy sophistication, perfectly suited to a resort setting. Also making a bold impression were a matte gold cloqué set and a backless jumpsuit in vibrant pink and orange stripes, both delivering a striking visual impact.

This collection also served as a testament to Chanel’s longstanding relationship with Italian craftsmanship, brought to life through collaborations with renowned ateliers based in the Lake Como region. The historic shoemaker Roveda, known for its fine leatherwork and precise cutting techniques, lent its expertise to jeweled strap sandals and elegant, relaxed mules. Meanwhile, Mantero, a silk specialist established in 1902, contributed its signature dyeing techniques and soft textures to beautifully draped blouses, glittering dresses, and scarves, imbuing them with subtle depth and fluid grace.

Accessories, too, reflected the Maison’s signature creativity. Styling details featured intricately woven tote bags, jewel-like minaudières, and brightly colored, charming mules—each piece showcasing an exquisite balance of playfulness and sophistication. Silk scarves were used generously as accents, tied around the hair, ankles, wrists, or draped over bag handles, adding a touch of freedom and effortless Parisian flair to each look.

The finale presented a dramatic close: a black taffeta gown and an evening dress shimmering in liquid satin. As the music played its final notes, the show concluded with a lingering sense of elegance and emotional resonance.
