Dior has announced a runway show for its Pre-Fall 2024 collection at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City. The date of the event is April 15. It is expected that many celebrities and press representatives from all over the world will gather for this event.
The partnership between Dior and the Brooklyn Museum has become even stronger. Dior held an exhibition titled “Christian Dior, designer of Dreams” at the museum in late 2021 and early 2022. The French Maison also sponsored the “Brooklyn Artists Ball” held at the museum last April.
The story of Dior and New York dates back to 1947. At the time, Christian Dior, the brand’s founder, was invited to Dallas to receive an award from the luxury department store Neiman Marcus. He stayed in New York for a few days during the business trip and was captivated by the city and that experience led him to establish a Dior subsidiary in New York the following year.
Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Pre-Fall 2024 collection will focus on “unwavering ties between Dior and the United States.” It was inspired by Marlène Dietrich, a bridge between American and French fashion culture, blending the Dior silhouette with the diva’s phantasmagorical presence and boyish allure, and utilizing among others tweed fabrics typical of British menswear.
“Celebrating the passion (Dior’s) designer-founder always had for this fascinating American metropolis, this mesmerizing show will be staged in the heart of Brooklyn Museum, reaffirming the symbolic, powerful alliance that unites Dior with this iconic institution,” said the Maison in a press release.
Without a doubt, the Maison has a growing presence in New York City, given Dior’s light show on Saks Fifth Avenue during the 2023 holiday season and the transformation of building facades and windows into a world of dancing Dior.
