On May 13, Gucci presented its Cruise 2025 collection at the Tate Modern in London. This was the first cruise show for Gucci’s Creative Director, Sabato De Sarno.
Although Gucci is currently based in Milan, the foundation of the Maison is still deeply rooted in London.
The roots go back to 1897, when Guccio Gucci, the founder of the Maison, worked as a baggage handler and elevator boy at the Savoy Hotel. While working there, Guccio observed the styles of the international elite who stayed at the hotel and came up with the idea of creating a luxury suitcase and bag brand. In 1921, he founded his eponymous brand in Florence and opened the first Gucci store on Via Vigna Nuova in Italy.
De Sarno wanted to pay homage to these Guccio origins, the love of luxury luggage, and London’s diverse culture and diversity. Before deciding to hold this destination runway in London, de Sarno made numerous trips to the city and was eager to condense the cosmopolitan and creative essence of the capital.
The show, held at the world-famous Tate Modern, was attended by industry professionals and celebrities including Dua Lipa, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Paul Mescal.
The 2025 cruise collection cleverly incorporated soft pastels and bold primary colors to create an elegant style that seamlessly blended masculine and feminine.
The first look combines a camel-colored leather jacket with a feminine chiffon blouse. For the bottom, oversized jeans complete a modern wardrobe that exudes a classic impression with a hint of languor—then followed by a relaxed, sophisticated, everyday style, including super mini-length hot pants reminiscent of Miu Miu, and a white shirt and denim.
Each look shows a perfect fusion of classic British uniforms and sophisticated Italian design. Heavy leather jackets appeared in a variety of colors and were matched with light organza skirts and dresses, uniting the two opposing materials and creating a perfect balance.
The Blondie bag, a 1970s icon reimagined in smooth leather and monogram, was the show’s star. Available in a variety of colors such as dark brown, bordeaux, camel, and black, the bags offered a variety of styles. Pearl necklaces around the neck also enhanced the romantic mood.
In addition, coats and dresses with countless beaded fringes shimmering boldly created a cheerful and bright mood appropriate for a cruise collection and had a gorgeous presence. There was also a dress with a baby-doll-like bra top that switched to the bust, combining the daintiness and sexiness of a maiden in a single dress.
The finale concluded with a dramatic dress in vivid colors of green, blue, and white, boldly dominated by delicate organdie. These dresses, with their mysterious and beautiful forms, fully expressed Gucci’s tradition, elegance, and prestige, as befitting a runway that coexists refreshingly with the greenery of nature, where the grass is lush and fragrant with flowers.
