On December 12th, Jacquemus presented its spring/summer 2023 collection at Le Bourget Airport, just outside Paris, France.
At the show venue, Blackpink’s Jennie also appeared. She is a good friend and muse to the designer since she attended the Spring 2022 Hawaii show.
She rushed to the venue on that day even though Blackpink has a concert in Paris at 7 pm.Jennie smiled at the press in an all-white look from the latest Jacquemus collection, wearing an oversized boxy white jacket and the off-the-shoulder, asymmetric-hem mini dress underneath.
Dubbed Le Raphia, the Spring/Summer 2023 collection features fresh and delicate menswear and womenswear looks rich in natural ‘raffia fiber’, which is the dried raffia palm leaf.
Jacquemus’s designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus wrote on the brand’s show notes, “It’s the end of the summer. All these colors, all the dreams that I saw, that I had, go away. The smell, the beauty, The Raphia rain sweeps everything away as in a dream…Will I see again those big hats, those flower buckles, those prints? I think so.”
In this collection, their craftsmanship was presented in every detail, with natural materials blending vibrant colors and poetic silhouettes as well as previous Jacquemus collections in the past. Hand-embroidered by Maison Lesage, raffia was transfigured into fabric-like garments, become tailored jackets, or added on jeans, shoes, and accessories as details.
In addition, shimmering knitwear and artisanal beading, and mesh clothing with tassels added a playful touch to the traditional style.
More excitingly, soft materials and new bags came out on the SS23 which is in a new contrast to the minuscule Jacquemus purses of fame. There were also multiple “body-skimming” beachwear options, including embroidered dresses, men’s tank tops, and denim that can be worn casually day to night.
Finally, “Le Bisou” debuted as Jacquemus’s latest bag in this collection. This bag is very slim and easy to carry, featuring a curved silhouette that can be used as a shoulder bag or held in your hand. It might be Jacquemus’s new icon bag.
Jacquemus is a brand started in 2009 by designer Simon Porte Jacquemus from Southern France. Amazingly, Jacquemus is a self-taught fashion designer who opened a small atelier in 2009 to create his own collection.
When the brand was established, it was only a women’s collection, but since 2018, it has launched a men’s line and has grown into a Maison that boasts tremendous popularity over the past few years.
