L’Oréal Expands AI Partnership with NVIDIA to Accelerate Beauty Innovation Through Molecular-Level Predictive Science

L'ORÉAL AND NVIDIA TO ACCELERATE BEAUTY DISCOVERY

On March 17, French beauty company L’Oréal announced the expansion of its AI partnership with U.S.-based semiconductor leader NVIDIA. The initiative aims to fundamentally redefine beauty and skincare development through AI-driven computational chemistry.

Through this collaboration, L’Oréal is integrating NVIDIA’s machine learning framework “ALCHEMI” into its Research & Innovation (R&I) ecosystem. By predicting the behavior and interactions of ingredients at a molecular level, the company has established a system that significantly enhances both the precision and speed of formulation development.

While L’Oréal has previously leveraged AI in marketing and advertising, this expansion marks a deeper move into the R&D domain. By simulating ingredient performance and texture in virtual environments and testing thousands of variables simultaneously, the process is designed to dramatically streamline experimentation.

With the introduction of this technology, the time required to move from laboratory concept to finished product can be accelerated by up to 100 times compared to traditional methods. This enables L’Oréal to maximize the potential of its proprietary active ingredients, advancing product development in areas such as skin protection and the prevention of premature aging.

The current research focuses on two key areas: photoprotection and skin tone management. By identifying optimal formulations in a digital environment before physical testing begins, the approach is expected to improve both the accuracy and reproducibility of development.

Barbara Lavernos, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L’Oréal, commented: “Our collaboration with NVIDIA brings definitively a new dimension into our L’Oréal Research labs. By applying AI-powered molecular simulation to our most proprietary actives, we are bridging atomic-scale discovery with real-world consumer benefit — accelerating the development of more effective, more sensorial and accessible products for consumers around the world.”

Azita Martin, Vice President and General Manager of AI for Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods at NVIDIA, added: “By integrating NVIDIA ALCHEMI into its R&D workflows, L’Oréal can simulate ingredient performance at an atomic scale, accelerating breakthrough discoveries in formulation and delivering advanced beauty and preventive products
to consumers
.”

The initiative will be presented at the NVIDIA GTC AI Conference, held in San Jose from March 16 to 19, 2026, marking a significant milestone that highlights the convergence of technology and beauty.

L’Oréal currently operates 22 research centers across seven global hubs, supported by more than 4,000 scientists and over 8,000 digital, tech, and data experts. As the company continues its evolution into a beauty tech leader, this AI strategy stands as a critical step in strengthening its long-term competitive advantage.
