American fashion designer Tom Ford has announced that he is leaving his eponymous fashion label Tom Ford, which he has been running for about 13 years.
On April 26, Tom Ford made a surprise reveal of his Fall 2023 collection. The brand was acquired by Estée Lauder last November for $2.8 billion, the highest price in the company’s history, at which time Ford was to remain as creative lead until the end of 2023. However, it was informed that he leaves the brand as of April 2023, much earlier than planned.
The Fall 2023 collection unveiled today will be an archival collection that pays tribute to Ford’s early work, reworking some of his most iconic designs. The collection included the white caped column gown he made for Gwyneth Paltrow at the 2012 Oscar’s, a color-blocked sequin dress from spring 2016, and the spring 2020 breastplate Zendaya donned for the Critics Choice Awards that year.
The three campaign videos released were shot by Steven Klein and are iconic and mysterious. In the videos, models walk through a glass showcase, posing like mannequins to the commanding movements of designer Ford. Among them were Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Karen Elson, and Amber Valletta, all well-known models who have worked with Ford since the brand’s debut.
Tom Ford’s final collection shows how prolific and influential his designs were.
The Tom Ford Fall 2023 collection will be available this fall.
